I heard a lot of good things on this forum about XS headers. A lot of satisfied customers then complaining ones. Some do say it hisses from the felx pipe for thinner metal but for 100 bucks its not too bad.
DC headers are another good choice. They would be slotted between comptech and XS.
How much are the OBX headers?

^^^ that may have to do with the sizing of the flex pipe. I heard they have cheepo flexs, so maybe it's that. just a thought.
FYI I bought OBX headers off ebay and they were obx headers but I didn't think they were good enough to go on my car. they were the ceramic ones, not stainless. and their ceramic is cheap... as in u touch it with anything hard and u got urself a nice scratch. My bro's DC ceramic headers are whole new level of ceramic headers. Inside where the welds met the metal (where the 3 go to 1 at the flange) was shaved down and not smooth at all. I was very displeased. But I was told that's how they all are. So since they weren't "quality" in my mind I was skeptical if they would even fit properly. So i waited and then out of NO WHERE popped up a memeber in my PM and had a set 30 mins away for a damn good price.
I stand behind comptech all the friggin way. Fitment is crazy accurate too.
OP you never said if you were auto or 6 speed (manuals have to have a bend in the back header to clear a mount). I will take it you are auto tho?

lol k well then i doubt it's the reason why. You should wrap the entire header system and that will reduce ur noise for sure.
I have my comptechs completely wrapped. 120$ worth of wrap. took me almost 2 hrs to do it... just as long to install the headers LOL... whata joke. I did the wrap too minimize engine temps. And damn did it work!
I can go for a rippp park the car and have my finger between the front runner and the rad fan. which is less than 1 inch clearance...and leave my hand there... that's results
Car sounds soooo clean!!! I love IT...
can't wait to get the xlr8 highflow cat!!! to complete the sound of GLORY.

is in my signature, lol...... DEI wrap
dunno any other brands tho, I didn't think about it until i ran into it at the place I was looking at brakes for (where i chose DBA's, love them). it was a pure impulse buy (the header wrap).. but i had saved the cash on headers. all n all it cost me 600 install by myself, for the header system. Big thanks to the azine seller.
Do not rush the process, MAKE sure u got all the shyt u need, and reuse the header gaskets, and bolts (are really good), new ones are no better, I re-used mine and did everything by hand on my driveway, and took 2 hrs with the clean up and a beer break. And I didn't rush. The back header I put in from the bottom. you do this by inverting the header then once it's past the driveshaft up in where the old headers was, you simply turn it around slowly and gently, cause there are wires all up there and shyt.
Header install was so quick because I checked my cat bolts and header bolts to see if they were still good to go by hand and they were mint. AND i didn't remove anything to get anything in or out.
NOTE: for header wrap
I bought the can and sprayed it in 2 sessions, cause I did header 1st, then the j pipe second, the can was horribly clogged the 2nd time.... and i cleared it out b4 i stopped using it by holding it upside down and sparying till no shyt comes out. so i didn't coat them too much. So i would advise you either make sure that shyt is relatively newly made, cause i think mine was sitting there for a bit b4 i came along to buy it....cause header wrap is underrated, therefore not many people sell it. It is expensive but it's completely worth it.
I also would like to warn those with cheaper headers that do not have that thick of a construction to think about the fact they made indeed crack, and be a waste of time, money and the wrap.
So do at ur own risk. because I know a person that's had it happen to them.

that's exactly what I am saying, if you have cheepo headers. I'm not talking about obx stainless, CT, DC, and a few others, that I haven't seen in person. If they crack,it's usually at the flanges due to poor welds or simply too thin metal (or just bad metal in general).
I did it and used a LOT of it. I used 50ft roll for the headers and 70-80ft of a 100ft on the j pipe. I didn't measure it lol.

the only header that is carb approved is comptech.
dc sport headers are great. right their with the comptechs BUT, are cheaper bc their not carb legal
obx, xs, megan, and those other ebay ones are a hit or miss header, most times misses, not carb approved nor fitment approved. i did headers on my tl (dc sports) it was a PITA to get the oem ones off and header on. not something im gonna do twice or pay someone twice bc i went cheap with headers
end of discussion

yea i went all out on the front header with the silicone spray especially, so it's good for the elements, and I left the CT badge exposed so u know they're the real macoy.
also beware the smell is CRAZY intense and they smoke for the first week of driving! lol and they smell for about .... 2-3 months
I shit u not

All headers give you ~20whp. Its just a difference in quality. Im running XS headers and theyve been on my car for over a year now. The flex pipe rattles a bit, but other then that, they work as advertised. They are the best $120 I spent on the car.

Don't be so naive!! Show me dyno reports where the XS or DC sport headers, which does not fit the 6spd CL, produce 20whp. Comptech/CT Eng. does produce anyware b/w 25-34whp depending on your RPM (specially above 4K). Btw most header out there for most cars will produce between 9-17 HP. So dont state that all headers produce 20HP. Bottom line Comptech/CT is a quality product with good reliability which produces unusual amt of HP. I have had Comptech header and a SC on my CL for the past 6yrs with no reliability issues or problems. Search the site to see how many of the XS header had crack or failed prematurely.

Aside from the cracking and the CARB certification there is no difference between the CT headers and the XS headers.
Ive had them on my 6 speed for nearly 16 months now with no issues. Its a widely known fact that they add 20hp on the CLs. Its not just the CTs that add that power. If you want the proof, search. Im not doing it for you.

Megan's are crap forget it...
if you want you can make OBX or DC work on 6 speed but that requires some extra job... you'll have to grind the rear mount to make a clearance and relocate o2 bung... and you can do it
agree bc XS are good copy of Comptech
