Question Have You Had Seat Belt Sensor Failure?

Had the SRS light come on and brought it to the dealer today. The passenger-side seat belt sensor failed and they'll be replacing it at no cost, as everything related to the seat belt is covered by a lifetime warranty (on all vehicles from all manufacturers).

This is the second one I've had fail. The driver-side failed a couple years ago and was also replaced. Just curious if this is something common. Never had it happen on any other vehicles. While it's largely an inconvenience mostly, it does mean that the airbag won't fire because it doesn't think your seat belt is on and could cause more problems, so it is a safety issue.

If you are referring to the belt buckle, I had my driver side warranty replaced, a few years ago, with that other SRS recall. It regarded that SRS related box in the passenger seat of some kind (OPDS), IIRC'ly. No other SRS failures, going on 17+ years, other than the grenade shrapnel AB inflators.

Yeah, there's a sensor in the buckle that tells the car that you have your seat belt on. They replace the buckle and all is good.

I had the 3rd airbag replacement under the recall in January. The service manager today said that the replacements are no better and they need to keep replacing them every couple years. Uuuug, can't wait to go back to have the next recalled one replaced in a year.

Interesting, about the inflators. I must say, though, I'm the original owner of my CL-S6 and the electronics have held up very well. Still on the original coil packs and the AC has not had one problem so far with the FL heat. ( knocks on wood )

That's awesome. I've had 3 coils go out over the years (the most recently a couple months back). Just turned over 199k this week right after picking it up from the shop where they installed 4 new struts (only cost about $6 for each of them and it handles like it's new again). AC has been good. Was a Texas car and has now been in Minnesota most of its life, where the heat and humidity is even worse. We've got about the worse in the US, where temps can be -40 in the winter and well over 100 in the summer, so it goes through the paces.

I had the pleasure of visiting Minnesota, back in the summer of 2000, as a member of the transition team moving the accounting / financial function of National car rental HQ on 7700 France Avenue South. IIRC'ly, we started going back and forth from Boca Raton in May and it was still cold up there. I remember watching 'Gladiator' at the Mall of America, lol. Good Times!

I've had the driver side buckle replaced in my Civic. In regards to the airbag recalls, we got another recall notice for our Odyssey last month. It says the airbag could deploy and cause death but they haven't put any plans into action and they have no parts so we should just sit tight and hope we don't get killed. They'll let us know if and when they have a plan together. I had the Civic done in January, then immediately got another recall because the mechanic that did the previous recall may have inadvertently messed something else up while he was in there. That makes four recalls on the Civic airbags in three years.
