has this happen to anyone?

ok gettin up to speed on the freeway today i over rev'd a little to 7k rpm.(did so cuz some stupid bmw almost hit me) right after that the engine malfunction light came on and stayed flashing. not the check engine light but the picture of the engine. a minuet later the light turned off. car runs fine it seems.doesnt seem to be a problem now. just curious as to why it came on to begin with? could it be the car's computers flippin out for doin 7k?

afaik, a flashing engine on the cluster means that ur car engine was misfiring, maybe do to over reving the engine. our rev limiter on the s, is around 7200, i mis shifted and went to 8k, i caught it before any damage was done. but i didnt get any check engine lights. when i scanned it, i got a engine over speed occurace or something like that.

That was the check engine light
2 things...
You stabbed the gas very quick, broke traction & the car still accelerated with the loss of traction. Causes what the ECU thinks are misfires & flashes the Check engine light.
Do you have a 6mt? If not this is likely what happened.
If you have a 6mt, then you may have triggered an over-rev code which caused the light to flash. Hook up a code scanner & see if there's an over rev code. If there is none, then #1 is what happened.
I have done it many times. It's normal BTW.
