Has anyone that uses an Acura Bra had this happen...

I have used the bra a few times for road trips. Last time I took it off I noticed the paint under the passanger headlight peeling. My guess it's from the rough material of the hard flap that goes in between the light, & bumper. I had the same thing happen on the 02 I had, in almost the same spot, but it's worse on this car. Any one else have this happen? It's an offical Acura bra bought from the dealer. I'm taking the car in to get the parking break fixed next week, I'm going to have them look at it, & try to get them to fix it. I'd rather not have the whole bumper painted. It's the only blemish. Here are some pics.

i have the same problem, but it's only a tiny 1/8" chip right between the bottom of the headlight and bumper (no way a rock could've caused it). It's a clean chip that exposes the black of the bumper.

I didn't think much of it and knew it was caused by the bra, but I may just fill it with touch up.

I've never had problems using the nose cover.

But Acura's paint is susceptible to quality issues.

I've noticed on mine too, but thought that was how it was because when I bought my car, my rear bumper showed the same thing..and I had them fix that. Never checked the front when I bought it. I'll check to see how bad mine is tonight. That is gonna suck if the paint really is chipping away because of that flap! What is Acura trying to sell?

Mine did the same thing as well. Let us know if Acura fixes it for you. I have been using touch up paint to fill it in.

For those of you who have peeling from the nose mask...did it ever get worse? I see the black on mine...and the peeling is on both sides of the bumper. One is pretty long...and I think it's okay as long as it doesn't peel onto the front. I can put some touchup on there, I guess to try and smooth it together.

My CL-S was a certified used one and did not have the bra on it when i purchased it, but it was in the trunk of the car, so the previous owner must have had it on the car. I have the same peel that you guys are talking about under my passenger side headlight.
I wonder if there is anything the dealer can do about it ?

Well, I was at the dealer today. Fixed the parking break. Had the service manager look at the peeling paint, with a body guy. For now nothing is going to be done. I have to meet with the regional rep when he's available in 1-2 weeks & have him approve, or not approve the repaint of the bumper. The dealer said it was a "questionable" repair. They claim 2 reasons.
1-They claim it looks like the bumper was painted after it left the factory. If it was, it happend before I bought it since it was a new car.
2-They didn't like the fact I have the mesh grill on the top part of the hood, & questioned if that could have "damanged" the bumper. I can't see that since the hood has nothing to do with the bumper, or the peeling paint under the headlight.
So I have to meet this guy, & then make my case with him.

That's crazy to think that your grille has anything to do with the peeling paint. After all, the peeling is under the headlight and not the grille.

I will try to make a case with mine as well...factory accessories should be compatible with the car and not cause things like this!

I've had some paint issues with my car, but me and Acura agreed not to fix it since they were confident that my paint won't get any worse (decided on some free service instead). But this is peeling, so hopefully something can be done to prevent it from getting any worse.

Let us know what they say in a couple weeks. Good luck!

That's not the problem here though. The Acura bra fits very snug, no flapping, or looseness. It was caused because of the material used in the mouting flap, combined with the great quailty paint we have. I only put it on for long road trips. I've had bra's on other cars, & this is the first problem I had with it.

It's the best bra I've ever seen (well Vic Secret has some nice ones though...

I never had a problem, but my friend had some nasty clear coat hazing on his red CL. They told me that it had to be removed and dried every time it got wet or when I washed the car. Yeh right, it was a bitch to put on (due to it's snug finish), and I could never see myself taking it off every time it rained.

This time I tried the invisible bra by 3M (clear film). Seems to work good.... :P

Let's just say that it is NOT user friendly, difficult to take on and off. Mine flapped on the hood part because they really don't fit well and it fooked up my hood, but Acura took care of the damage (this was two weeks after I bought the car). After that, I stopped using it ! Want to buy mine ??????

Just kidding !

this happened to me last summer when I took a 2000mi road trip in the CL-S

I bought the bra thinking I was protecting the paint,

low & behold it rubbed the paint off in 2 different spots

the dealer didn't give a shit

I have the same problem. I am waiting until right before my warranty runs out to get them to paint it. That is BS. It is the Acura Bra that causes this problem. I will ensure that they fix it. I also do not want them to paint the whole thing. My dealership uses an outside guy to do touch up work. He does a great job. After I get mine fixed, I want to put some clear tape over it and rap it around the bottom to stop this from happening again. I will put the tape to where you can't see it with the bra on or off.

Yep, the bra that is suppose to be protecting.....is the culprit ! I ALWAYS buy a bra with all my new Honda's/Acura's, and this one is a pain in the ass ! I caught it early and brought it to Acura's attention, and they fixed it and got rid of it. However, the botton part served me correct ! It is the hood part that is poorly designed, but the easiest to remove ! The botton is a pain in the back !

So what did the dealer tell you about the chipping? I'm waiting to take my car in for the next service...at that point, the chipping will be one of the things I'll have them look at.

I used a Colgan Custom half bra on my GSR for 6 years or so. Never had a problem. GSR was made in Japan though. Our cars are made in Ohio I think - maybe cheapy paint process.

I'm using 3M on the 6speed.

Did you meet with the area rep about the chipping? Did they decide to do something for you or did he just say to take a hike?

Update,
Rick Case Acura did nothing but waste my time. They had the regional rep at the dealer, but I was in NYC so he didn't see my car. I'm still waiting for the guy to get back to me. So I took the car to Palm Beach Acura, drove the 45 miles each way. Their service manager looked at it, in less then 2 minuites said yeah we've seen that before. We'll repaint the bumper. No fuss, no explainations, just a big sure. Dropped it off Monday morning, it's ready now, I'm picking it up later today. They said they used PPG paint who knows really, I just hope it matches.

PPG does supply Honda the paint for our cars (OEM paint for GM,
Honda, Chrysler, Toyota and Mitsubishi.). It is a good product if PPG doesn't fuvk it up at the plant. Union made quality

They'll repaint mine once it starts peeling over to the front. I see it peeling underneath the headlight though. The dealer noted it and said they wanted to hold off painting until it peels over. It's been noted, so once it happens, they'll repaint...and they'll even paint around the edges there since it seems like the paint doesn't cover all around, just halfway on the lip under the headlight.

Picked it up, looks fine to me, seems to match. They didn't paint the black part at the bottom, I asked them too, said they couldn't cause it wasn't painted stock. Guess cause it was a warranty item. Can't wash it for a week, can't wax it for 4-6 weeks.
