Has anyone taken off the limiter????

I was wondering if anybody has successfully taken the top speed limiter off of our CL's. I wanted to know if it was possible and what the top speed of the CL would really be.

I think someone said it's controlled by the ECU. You would have to reprogam it to go past the limiter.

If you want to know what your top speed would be, figure out your speed, in your top gear, at half way to redline. Remember to consider a few miles for wind resistence. On the 6-speed, in 6th gear at 3600 RPMs, i do 96, times 2 is 192. Minus some for drag coefficient. 180-ish? Probably closer to 170, but i would never do that in my car outside an oval track, helmet, and roll cage.

Just wondering why you would want to take it off? I've taken my 02 CLS up to 145mph and the needle was still going, but I didn't think the risk of going any faster was worth it. I tried it once just to see, but most probably I'll never do it again nor would I need to. I've read on the boards of people taken it faster.

Good luck in possibly changing the limiter, but be careful man. The limiter is there for a reason. Good luck anyways

Probably around 155 stock.

I've been at 140 MPH, and drag was a big issue at that speed.

Keep in mind that V rated tires are only good to 150 MPH, so unless you use Z, be prepared to add yourself to the Darwin emails.
