Has anyone relocated their battery to the trunk? For Supercharger clearance, Stereo purposes, or handling for weight distribution? If so, what's the best method and parts involved. I'm considering it to prep for SC.

heh, I figured if you wanted more room for a turbo you could just relocate teh battery, plus you could just bolt the turbo onto teh battery support bolt holes too. I can't believe that hasn't been done yet.

Sorry for digging this back up
But I figured I would tell the tale.
I had my first battery problem with the supercharged CL-S on friday.
Long story short, the battery was no good after 14 months. (60 month battery Interstate MT-51R). Needless to say but they hot shotted me a new battery without any questions.
NO I did not need to pull the Supercharger... the ICEBOX needs removed (3 screws/2 bolts) and the throttle body needs removed (loosen the 2 bolts/2 nuts) and slide it back).
then remove the 2 bolts holding the battery tray in, slide the battery tray back towards the firewall alittle and tilt the battery right towards the drivers side and BAM... battery out.
Now I have a NEW interstate 75 month MT-51R battery in.
1 thing I did notice after I took the battery out... The battery tray seemed to have some of the paint peeling off the corners... So I washed it, sanded it, washed it again and spray painted it.... good as new.

Interstate guy did a load test on the battery and noticed the battery was not going to take a charge... At first I was ready to blame my alternator, but I did some testing and ruled out it was not a fault.

that is correct, but I remember Allmotor explaining to me that it is hard to find a ground wihin the trunk..... I was going to run the stock ground all the way back to the trunk but I remember reading somewhere that is not good to have the battery grounded more than 6-8 inches from the frame/body.

.... but the plugs will not need changed for awhile.. and after my conversations with Scalbert on the subject we both agreed that pulling the charger is not that big of deal.. he has had his charger off/on a few times... me on the other hand..0 times..

Any reason why? Doesn't the ground just need to be connected to the metal underneath the rugs? Am I missing something here?

yes but you need it to be bare metal, and have a nice sized hole for the bolt....

From my old school of thought, always run a ground to the engine block. Perhaps things have changed. How about those in the know?

The shorter the ground the better. My ground (in the trunk) is directly beheath the battery. Good metal-metal contact and a connection that won't loosen is critical <-- I re-did the ground wire once because it kept coming loose. I also ran some extra 2 gauge grounds from the engine to chassis. Power wire is a thick-strand 2-gauge (home depot), works great. 4-gauge power wire (especially that thin-strand 'stereo power cable') has a lot of losses and isn't very good over a long distance.

my thoughts exactly, but Allmotor did not elaborate... if you look at the stock set-up the ground wire is connected right to the frame behind the drivers side headlight.
Anyways, the whole idea of my post was to let you guys know that the Supercahrger does not need to be pulled to swap out the 51R battery...

what the hell are you talking about? there is an emergency trunk release just inside the pass thru. pull the little handle, and it opens the trunk.
