hard shift from park to reverse? Jens?

or anyone for that matter. .

some mornings after i start the car, and put it in reverse (from park), it is a firm/hard shift to get it into reverse. .

other times, it's smooth like any other gear. .

what's the reason for this?

Wayne,

My Silver S is with you guys today and I DO have the same problem. If you haven't started it yet shift it into reverse and you will witness the thud or hard shift that he's talking about. Is this normal? It also happens even on a warmer day and after it warms for a bit. THANKS!!!

Mercury- Jens is working on your car now. I'll have him check it. I can say that this is probaly normal. Every CL or TL I drive does it to one degree or another. If there is something that needs attention, rest assured that we will handle it for you.

Try using your parking brake. Stop the car, set the parking brake firmly, then shift to "Park". This should make shifting out of Park much easier.

I had this problem when I first got my car but I think I have just learned the sweet spot. I don't have the problem anymore.

I have the same gripe on cold morning starts. Ramsey Acura told me it is converter drain out and that it's inherent to the design.

I don't buy it unless the Torque Converter is the size of a beer keg. Call me a cynic but if it was in the design from the start, I gotta laugh.

i've had this problem before also, but only on an incline. I always thought it was cause after shifting into park and not setting the foot brake, the car would either roll forward or backward(depending on direction of the incline of course!)......since then i've always used my foot brake everytime i park the car and it's been smooth ever since....plus, with your footbrake on, when you start the car the daytime running lights won't turn on until you release the footbrake....it's kind of a minor detail to not have your drl on when cranking the car but hey....i live in a tough environment....Canadian winters eh!!!
