Hail stories...

It hailed for the first time yesterday. No damage was done to my car, given it was only small pebble size, but it certianly pissed me off pretty good. Anyone have any first hand horror stories about hail damage?!

YES, your worst nightmare....

My 1992 Acura Legend LS Coupe, was TOTALED by a hail storm. This was in KY, and the hail was up to baseball sized and lasted for 20 minutes....

There was not one piece of glass or a single body panel that was left untouched. I was out of town, but my Dad was first on the scene, and when he opened the door to the car water flowed out.

Anyway, That was a great car and I hated to see it go...

Later,
Derek

this summer a hail storm went through my neighbor hood, the hail damage was only half a mile wide but managed to hit 6 car dealer ships, for the next 3 months you could get a 330i for 22k. my car got over 5k in damage. neighbors lost skylights and what not. everyone got new roofs. it was the size of pool balls.

A couple years ago in college, a nasty storm was heading right towards campus. I happened to stumble upon the weather channel and see the severe t-storm warning. I ran out, hopped in my car and drove it to a parking garage. About 2 minutes later the hail started to fly, about 2 inches in diameter. Some cars were beaten up pretty bad. It sucked...

As a former Gen II Legend Coupe owner myself I shed a tear after reading that.

Another story

I was also victim to a hail storm a couple of years ago when I was in College. Luckily I was parked under a tree and I had a Saturn at the time. That plastic body didn't mind the hail. The roof and the trunk weren't plastic and got a couple of dings but the tree really saved me. The car was also white, so the dings didn't really show that much. Took the insurance money and pocketed it!

i lived in northern indiana for a year, i noticed that every house even shacks had a garage, i asked, "hail" - it would be a breezy summer day and all of a sudden the birds would stop chirping, the wind would stop and the sky would turn black, i had a heated garage at my apartement there so it was no big deal, but i saw some wicked storms come up out of nowhere i head that indiana is the 2nd most popular state for severe weather and tornados

hail sucks big time - usually if a body panel like the roof (hood and trunks are less expensive to replace than repair) has to be repaired i saw a body shop use a pocket torch on the dent, the metal shrinks and "pops" back up, then they use minimal filler and repaint

back from the dead:

So there was a nice storm this morning and my car now has hail damage for the second time. Damage isnt nearly as bad, doesnt look like any panels will have to be replaced, PDR should fix it.
