Hahahahaha.. You won't believe what my Alero got recalled for.

I got a postcard in the mail yesterday from GM regarding a "Recall Notice" for my '01 Alero GLS.

So I called to see what it is all about...

It's a ONE page piece of paper that is to be added to the owners manual giving more information on the child restraint anchores.

LMFAO

So, I'm supposed to go into the dealer, so they can write up a ticket and provide me with the material necessary.

I honestly didn't beleive the guy. But sure enough... A trip over to nhtsa.gov provides the info.

:P

Make: OLDSMOBILE
Model: ALERO
Year: 2001
Recall Number: 03V250000

Consequence:
THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD.
Remedy:
OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A SUPPLEMENT FOR THEIR OWNER’S MANUAL. IT DESCRIBES AND SHOWS THE LOCATION SYMBOLS FOR THE CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORS THAT ARE LOCATED IN THE VEHICLE. They are following procedure regardless of the insignificance. But if they didn't you know there would one day be a law suit when someone doesn't fasten the anchor correctly.

I certainly understand that. But when I think of "recall", it's for a bum tranny, a defective electrical part, a Firestone tire... Not a one page addition to my manual.

A few million spent on printed material and postage is probably cheaper than a couple multi-million dollar lawsuits.

Child restraints are a big deal to the industry and the government. They fall under the NHTSA as a serious issue.

Obviously, this is trivial in the real scheme of things, but all issues with child restraints have to have their i's dotted and t's crossed .

Same thing happened on my friend's Tacoma about 4 years ago.... Recalled for a page in the owners manual. Something in regards to seatbelts or something too.

hehe thats funny. So how do you like your '01? My dad has an '00 GLS, and I think its a pos. Handling sux balls, though the little comforts are kinda cool (auto lights, auto locks). But the battery started leaking after like 12 months of owenership, and the roaters were warped, so I want him to get rid of it

It's been a GREAT car actually. My wife drives it and she loves it, to be honest.

Yeah, the handling does suck, but that's about the only bad thing I can say about the car. It's got some pep, the upgraded stereo in the car sounds excellent IMHO, it rides nice, looks decent (coupe), and I was able to buy it new for so little money I don't think I could really complain even if it was a complete POS.

16.5K miles, bought Dec. 00, not one problem.
