I'm driving in on I-294 this morning heading towards the airport. I see this SUV hauling ass behind me, cutting in and out of traffic. I've always wondered why people in SUVs think their vehicles handle like corvettes...

Anyhoo...

I'm in the left lane, and there is a truck in each of the other two lanes. This guying is flying, easily going 90+. I'm following a new Chevy. Impala, going 70mph.

There is no room for anyone between the Impala and my CL. Well, there is but certainly not enough room for someone to come over in my lane. This guy could have gotten behind me, waited until we got past the trucks and been on his way. But NOOOOOOOOOO... He just moves right in to my lane, I slam on the brakes. That rat bastard... Ok - The game is on...

He takes off, so I drop it into third, and catch up to him in no time. He pulls in the middle lane, and I pull up next to him, flipping him off and yelling at the top of my lungs. I felt like the Dad from 'A Christmas Story', only every other word out of my mouth was the f--- word!

So he starts driving like a total idiot. Cuts another driver off as he barrels into the right lane. I didn't want to let him go that easy, so I push it up to a gentle 100mph+. I think I was just a hair shy of 105mph in 3rd. I continue to point and scream at this guy, blowing the horn. For whatever reason, he really pissed me off.

I finally realized that going 100mph in a 55, could be a significant problem if I were to get caught, so I wisely slowed down.

Damn SUV drivers!!! :pfawk:

2 questions --

What is the maximum speed for 3rd before fuel cutoff? And... How bad is it to drive our cars at 100 mph for sustained periods in 3rd gear?

 

Scrib, I can totally relate!! I had a run in with a guy driving a piece of sh*t Ford explorer doing the same thing!!! Does driving an SUV automatically make you an idiot when you sit behind the wheel??

 

While I don't know the answer to your question, I feel your pain (and anger). It's like these people believe that because they drive an SUV, they're better than anyone else.

It also annoys the f__ out of me when you get someone who won't let you merge in, to get off at an exit. That never fails here in the DC area.

Its like people have no control over their own lives so they have to be pricks and jerks in their cars just to prove to themselves that they can control you!

Shifting "speed"under WOT in D5:

1st to 2nd: 38-42 MPH
2nd to 3rd: 67-73 MPH
3rd to 4th: 103-107 MPH

So, I do not know who come some claimed they can hold second to 77MPH and 3rd past 110MPH!

 

Just gently nudge the explorer's rear bumper while you are traveling at 80+ and the spectacular rollover show will be worth the minor repairs on your bumper.

 

and the SUV driver would get killed, the court finds that you are guilty and sentence you for all life behind bars... what a funny story

 

Not all Explorer drivers are bad, I have a 94. I do relize however it's not a car, & doesn't drive like one either. Just tring to get my Explorer up to 80 is hard enough.

I drive 294 for about 35 miles a day (from Oak Lawn to Oakbrook) and there are some TERRIBLE Drivers on it. Nothing pisses me off more than the soccer moms in their SUV's & MiniVans that do 50 in the left lane!!!

Scrib, maybe the Explorer who cut you off is the same that did it to me.. I'm sooo glad that I moved only 6 miles from work because I couldn't stand the idiots that were on 294. I used to commute from Lombard to Deerfield 5 days a week and it was like a living hell!! Wait, now I have to worry about crazy Northbrook moms who must drive in the largest SUV's out there even though they can't see above the steering wheel!!!

I had the same problem w/ this dick in a expedition yesterday. He flew past me on the turnpike, bobbing and weaving like an ass trying to get around people. When he finally did he was gone. The asshole paid for it about 15 miles down the road a state cop had his ass pulled over

 

294 sucks, Idiot drivers!! I used to get so many damm tickets on that express way. (Oh and let's not forget the Skyway I-90, where you pay $2.00 and all the damm chicago cops hang)..

 

 

Yeah, my buddy was on the Chicago Skyway the other day, and his V1 went nuts with 3 bogies. About 1 mile up ahead, three cops sitting in the median...

not to start a new thread so i'll post my road rage here. on my way to work from school i'm on 101 south. i'm in the fast lane about 1 1/2 car lengths behind the guy in front of me. i see the white cargo van creeping up so i speed up so he can't cut me off. so instead he runs me off the road. i slam my brakes and drive on the shoulder. obviously i back off. after we pass up some cars we swerve over to the next lane and he brakes hard. i pass over two lanes to the slow lane and get in front of him and slam hard. mutha fucker wants to play, i play harder. he has the nerve to exit. i should have followed him because he was probably going to his work. wish i could have gotten his ass fired. all work cars need to have a "how's my driving". thing is too that it was new so no plates. i would have called the police and turn his ass in. puck mutha fucker.

 

Um... Because there was a Impala infront of me so I couldn't speed up, and that particular lane was moving faster than the others. Combine that, with the 18-wheelers that were in the other lanes, I really couldn't go anywhere (easily)... Besides, he's the butthole that flew up in the middle lane, so even if I wanted to move over, I really didn't have an opprtunity to.

 

Why is he a 'butthole' for flying up in the middle lane?
I think we've all probably employed a few tactics to get around slow drivers, regardless of what lane they're in.
When I see somebody driving faster than me, I try to get out of the way. 90% of the time when it's not possible (as it sounds in your case) they understand. If this guy acted like a dick, well, then that's that. Why try to antagonize him just because he was trying to go faster than you?

 

It's a wonder you guys are all still alive driving like that. Oh well, I drive like that too only it's not during road rage, but during a friendly racing content.
