Had car dynoed, NOT happy with results
Well, it seems either the dyno was screwed up, or something is wrong with the car now.
The car feels very strong still, and it proved that last Friday.
I dynoed 199 hp and 182 tq before
This time with OBX headers I dynoed 203 hp and 170 tq
Any IDEAS?!
But how come I can run 14.4 at 99 mph with just 203 hp and 170 tq?! lol We did it 3 times, and did a air/fuel on the last one. Everything looks fine. graph isn't choppy, the 3800 intake switch works, vtec works. I don't get it!!!!
Sorry guys, I hoped for real results. Same place I dynoed before. They said something is wrong with the car, not the dyno.

Losing torque is not unusual in a street engine. The manufacturers go to great lengths to optimize flow in the cylinders. To a certain degree they factor in back pressure to the flow. You take that back pressure away with headers and it's possible to lose torque. The upside to that downside is you gain horsepower at the top end. Great for a race car, but not so great for a street car.

It seems fuked up ....
Post before and after graph so we can do an analysis...
I do not understand why you lose HP and Torque if you are running 14.4s in the 1/4 mile...
Did you do the runs in the 3rd?

wow, thats really sad.....id ask for a refund!! something must have not been set right on that dyno machine..thats unexplainable.....are you sure the weather conditions were the same? i cant imagine what could have caused the horrible results but DAMN thats really low...i wouldve been dissapointed to see only 15-20 hp increase...but ONLY 4??? and a torque loss of 12 lbs?? WTF???? something is wrong. seriously, id want a free chance to go do it again, ask for a refund or at least a free dyno run in a week or something....

We found one bolt that came loose on the front header. I doubt a leak would cause that much loss in power.

Jim, I tried, I had to pay. Didnd't matter. I had a Maxima before this, and took it to them before. It was reading really low #s on the dyno with it. And I added a intake and dynoed 20 hp more stock with it in another state. But then I got a better time later. Go figure.
Same goes for this car. 1st run same conditions it did 199 before. Now its only doing 3 hp?! lol

I doubt being rich woudl cause the #s to be that low especially if I can run 14.4 come on now!

Looking at you initial run that peak torque should not be used, that is converter flash. I would discount anything below about 4k revs on the first plot. Why did they start the run so high in the rev band anyway??
Doing that does still show a small loss in torque, I'll try to make an overlay when I get home in a while. But in all there is a slight low end loss which could be attributable to a few factors. Having ECT values would have been nice.

There is something wrong for sure...
On my Dyno... I had a Gear ratio of : 81.27 RPM/MPH
Yours is only 66.85 RPM/MPH !!! You may have been dynoing in 4th or I may be dynoing in 2nd....

dyno's dont mean shit...it's the track that tells the story...you use a dyno to make some runs...make a change and note the difference.. not to get the true measure of your cars performance...

Here is an Excel charts made from the supplied data of stock versus OBX headers. I only took it from the relevant parts of the chart where any torque converter flash was present. As you can see he was down on torque but not in the amount originally assumed but still worth being curious about; it was down a max of 9 Lb/Ft and up 8 HP.
But in looking at the numbers the headers did do one thing they were supposed to do, extend the torque curve. They allowed the power to continue longer than stock:
Now what could the reason be in the torque loss?? It is obviously not the IMRC. Could this be a valid run showing true results, IMO no. It could have been accidentally run in a different gear but was noted as not being the case. Could the engine have been running hotter than expected, we don't know that. But in the spirit of tests I applied a correction to the run based on the TOV results. I applied a correction factor of 1.035 to the torque and recalculated the numbers. The results are below:

hey fuck face, obviously something is messed up with that dyno or his car, etc...all i know is that with JUST the obx headers i dropped a fucking HALF second from my 1/4 mile time and gained 5 mph in trap speed...you do the math!! i dont have the money to piss away on a dyno test of my car but fuckin A....a half second off my time is fucking pretty damn good...i dont think anyone can argue with that!!! you gonna try and tell me that the headers didnt do much to my car?? hahaha, not to mention, theres alot of guys here that dont hit 14.3 with headers/CAI/exhaust/tires/pulleys/etc....dude i got stock fucking tires and it still gave me .5 seconds....go ahead and talk your shit, i got timeslips to back myself up.

A better statement would be "SINCE the OBX headers..." there are always other factors...
Here is an example, six years ago I took my wife's GS-T to the track and ran a second slower and the only difference was the rims. Later that night I re-couped that time and then some, dropped a 0.25 seconds.
A year or two before that time I picked up 8 MPH on a run in my Typhoon with no mod changes at all. How could that be?!?!

To make an addition to my simulated dyno plot; he was running on the rich side to an amount that can reduce power. Considering Nashua's before and after dyno showed a noticebale difference in A/F ratio along with the whole torque curve being shifted up that needs to be noted. Add to this the TOV observation the correction factor seems somewhat viable. But unless we could see the A/F ratio's on the previous run it is just speculation.
What does all of this teach us about the OBX headers, not crap. We have two unusual stock and OBX header runs with both going the opposite direction. :o

All I can add to this discussion is that I ran a 9.31 in the 1/8th @ E-Town which was the second fastest CL during that day. I was on my stock tires and my car was never that fast. I may take my car to the dyno one day to see what #'s my car puts out

scalbert, i know sometimes there can be a freak run, but my times were consistant throughout the day...i dunno, i plan on going back in early spring, hopefully with some newer tires by then and ill be sure to post the results, im thinking it will stick around 14.3-14.4...

Okay guys, I don't see how this caused that much loss of HP, but maybe it did?!
Anyways, I just got done removing and reinstalling the headers. By myself. I found the front and rear HEADER leaking exhaust. The SHITTY OBX gaskets leaked. The nuts were all still tight except the one on the front. I removed the shitty gaskets, put teh stock ones on, and tightend it all down tight again. I drove it for 5-10 miles. Car felt no difference, but the noises the headers were doing is all gone. I no longer hear a noise between 2500-3000 rpm like everyone mentioned. It's smooth again it seems.
I have a feeling these gaskets might be leaking on other peoples cars that are hearing those noises. USE THE FACTORY gaskets, do not use OBXs.
My dyno issue. I dunno what to tell everyone. My car still pulls like crazy. It's defintely not my car. I can vouch that 100%. I think its got something to do with the dyno. Unless the exhaust leaks caused that much loss in hp. I dunno.

R u saying that the Gasket is the source of the 2500-2900 rpms noises.... .....
Should we run to the nearest Acura dealer and order 2 set of Headers Gaskets?
