H&R Springs versus Comptech

yeah yea yeah do a search all i was really looking for was feedback from people who have either had both or who have ridden in cl-s's that have both and compare the ride for me ... lately ive been regretting my h&r's cuz the ride is really stiff but it looks soo much better then stock and ive been contemplating comptechs but i was wondering what the peeps on comptech springs got to say about them...are they really stiff?

I think that the consensus is that with Comptech with yello konis is stock ride like but a nice reasonable drop. Dropping more generally results in a ride that is harsher than stock - some say too stiff, some say bouncy, some say jusssssst right.

YMMV

I like the way Comptechs look, but now that mine are making clunking sounds, I wish I kept my car stock

Yeah, I didn't mind the ride in the "test" car with the Comptechs. However, the person with the Koni Yellows said they were great on smooth roads and the handling was great, but paid to have them removed when he hit the older pavement that is all around LA and surrounding areas... (It was too harsh for his tastes on less than perfect streets...)

YMMV

I'm thinking of getting H&R race springs for my CL...(im kinda new at this so I dont know much...)...the garage told me that they dont make springs for CL so I have to use a 90 accord's springs?
and I'm just wondering for those people who got the H&R RACE springs, how they like the performance and drop?

I have H&R sport springs, i only think they are stiff cause i have tokico 5 way adjustables on there, and they are set to 5, being the stiffest setting on the shocks. I have seen TL's dropped with comptech and i just dont like the way they settle, massive rake!!!!

Since you have Race Springs I won't trade, but I have comptechs sitting in my garage waiting to be installed on my car, but I wanted H&R sports. Race lower the car too much and are rough.

Anyone have pics of the HR OE Sports springs on their CL?
If so how are they , autocarparts.com says 1 inch front and 1.25 rear.., it says the HR normal Sport springs are 1.75 front and 1.75 rear..How bout the Nuespeed Sport springs anyone have those sayes they are 1.75 front and 1.75 Drop..
Im getting springs for my B-Day but my Female friend told me to keep it under $200.. My uncle is gonna put them on for me..
Gotta make sure the PAA will not void warrent on my ride, cuz i gotta get ext. warrenty, but I doubt it..
I dont want too much of a drop cuz I live in NJ and drive around NYC and potholes are a bitch!!

Input would be cool from all the owners..\

Thanks!

Here's mine. The drop was roughly 1.1 inches. I don't know if it actually drops more in the back or if it's just an even drop and the back was a bit lower to begin with. ACP's quote of 1"-1.25" drop came from Steve here (typeR). He might have more to add.

The difference in front to rear drop is most apparent on the side that's showing in the pic. The pics I've seen of the drop from the Sport springs look better than the OE Sports. Not sure if the Sports are any harsher or not but the ride on these OE Sports is better than stock, IMO.

A camber kit is definitely not needed for the OE Sport springs. Not sure about the Sport springs though.

I got the springs from these guys for $170 shipped. Order early since they took a while to ship them (about 2 weeks or so).

I dont have a good quality pic of my car. But like i said, it dropped it about 1.5 inches, and it was a flat drop, no rake. Just by looking at the above pic, i'd say mine is half an inch lower front and rear. I got my car aligned, and it definitely needs a camber kit in the rear, but then again you really dont have to, just eventually your tires will start to wear on the insides.

Race springs are excessively stiff, and lower the car much more. That is why you have a crappy ride. IF you got H&R Sports, you would have been fine with the ride.

TINMAN,

Did you notice any difference in ride quality AT ALL with OE SPorts??

Also, do you have a pic of car from the Side? (straight on, not on an angle like the one you posted?)

THANKS!!

The most obvious difference after switching to these springs was a big decrease in the front to back lifting and dropping on take-off and a quick stopping. Much less rocking.

I'm sure cornering was improved also but I don't have sways and still have stock tires so there's room for huge improvements in that area.

The OE Sport springs are a little stiffer than stock but the ride is perfectly fine. The increase in stiffness is barely perceptible from a comfort perspective.

Be aware that H&R doesn't officially make springs for the CL. They make them for the V6 Accord and the TL but they don't list the CL anywhere. If you call them and ask questions, you almost need to tell them you've got a TL since they just say they don't have springs for the CL.

Here's a straight-on shot.

has anyone else noticed that all cl's sit a1/4" lower on the drivers side rear than the passenger side rear? i guess it's just how they are built. even w/ stock springs this is the case.

Finally, a picture of someone with HR OE springs!
Tinman -- your drop looks good. Very even.
People have been complaining that the HR OEs drop the back "way too low compared to the front". Some people have claimed that the HR OEs are "mismatched" springs. I just don't see that in your picture.
I wonder if people are a little confused and/or didn't measure their wheel gaps prior to their drops. My front wheel gap is 1/2 inch bigger than my rear gap (stock ride height gaps, no drop yet). Probably that is why CT does a 1.5"/1.0" front/rear drop. But for the even wheel gap, you get a rake and so forth.
Thanks for the picts!:P

a camber kit is not required for drops of about 1". Even 1.5" is probably okay on our car. A bigger drop than that requires a camber kit. Yes, yes, I know not everybody gets the kit who should get it.
I don't think they make one for the front end of the CL, though. I guess you just have to deal with tires wearing unevenly if you want a deep, aggressive drop.

Thanks TINMAN... I appreciate your insights...

I would like to lower the car a little, but need to preserve ride quality for clients at work and I don't want to Pop for full coil-overs.... these may be the way to go

I would highly recommend Comptech springs. I just recently had them installed and they are a blast! Definite improvement in ride and handling quality. They feel slightly more bouncy than stock, but livable compared to my friend's Integra that is slammed. My stock tires used to screech on hard turns, but now I barely get a peep out of them. Once I get the S-03s...it's over! It has a nice raked look also. With the Comptechs...the drop is noticeable but low enough to have to angle on speed bumps or drive extremely too slow over dips. Braking and accelerating are definitely improved!
