guys with RL BBK

so how are you guys centering your rotors???

this is something i did not look into or even saw in threads when i was buying everything

i ordered all my parts including brackets and i cant figure out how i am going to center the rotors

i bought a couple sizes of centering rings that might work. and also bought 18ga aluminum wire...

my next plan of attack would be to find a way to center up a rotor to a oem rotor and drill out the set screws

also are you guys shaving the back of the calipers or just crushing the hell out of the bracket when you tighten them down???

mike

Crush the bracket when you tighten it down. DO NOT shave the calipers or the brackets. Theyre meant to be an interference fit so the calipers dont shimmy on the brackets.

Never worried about it.

But, you can always take a micrometer and get the hub bore of the rotors and get a spacer for them. Our hubs are 64.1mm.

thanks, i did get 66.1 to 64.1 hub rings, i also bought 18ga aluminum wire, and i also drilled out the set screws
i am just really anal about noises and vibrations with my cars.
do you get any vibration or noises??? i saw a vid of some guy he was testing on his accord...the rotor was shaking like CRAZY

those screws are useless and dont do anything other than hold the rotor inplace while installing the calipers

I asked about this myself and looked into it. I talked about it on here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...757273&page=12

I did get the 68.1 to 64.1 rings but I have not test fitted them yet. I will be doing that in the spring when I remove the spacers from my car to run my summer wheels. I'll update the thread with what I found.
BTW, I've already promised Morgan my other 2 centering rings if they work out.

I don't have any vibrations or anything like that but I figure it certainly can't hurt to center the rotor. Don't order the 66.1 to 64.1 hub rings. I did that and they were way too small, I ended up selling them.

def not useless, they keep the rotor from moving....yes i know you dont need the set screws with the oem rotors, the oem rotors fit on the hub, the Z rotors have a larger hub, therefore using at least one set screw will help to center the rotor and have least movement as possible...........

Those screws are soft and will shear if they were to be used to hold the rotor in place. Besides, thats what the lugs are for.

Agreed, main purpose of them to hold the rotor on while going down the factory assembly line

ahh you guys dont understand lol....they will never shear off ever......they are used to hold the rotor on and center it, the stud itself is not meant to center the rotor, the hub is what centers the rotor, if you read up or look for it, the center bore of the hub on our car is smaller than the Z, some cars get a bad wobble, pending on brand of rotors, the machining around the studs are larger and some are smaller.....

this is only if my centering rings are not exact fit, if they are exact fit i dont have to do anything, bc they will fit perfectly to the hub. if you put at least one centering screw in the rotor while its on evenly and then put the rim on it will never come off or get out of place.

on a side note, maybe i am being over cautious, while waiting for my brackets and my car to get out of the body shop. i just want the rotors to be centered as best as possible. i actually bought a oem rotor and put a oem lug nut in the oem rotor and the Z rotor, and there was more wiggle room in the z rotor
it all depends on your brand of rotors

sorry for the long goin on and on post, bacardi n gatorade pregame before i head out :0)

No shit. What we're saying is the rotor screws won't do a damn thing to suppress any vibrations you may or may not experience.

But, I see that you still plan on running the hubcentric spacers, which will help if you were to get any vibrations.

yesssss i didnt say i wanted the screws to stop vibration, just to help center it either way i should have the rest of my components in the next week to get this brake kit on and have some nice stoppers behind the wheels

If your that worried about it than you are more than likely going to have to figure it out yourself. It seems like they didn't have any problems so they did not have to worry about it. Personally if you got half a dozen to a dozen people running it and telling you it won't be a problem I wouldn't worry about it.

There are horror stories for everything on the Internet. The same thing happened with the crank pulley I got. Some people said it would be fine others said it would blow up my engine. I took the advice from people that have been running it for years and have hundreds of thousands of miles on it. I wouldn't worry about it unless you see a problem arise after the install

Most of what I have seen is people running 350z EBC rotors with EBC pads. I think I saw one guy running stop tech or power stop. I've been wanting to do this just haven't decided on which wheels I want and just had brand new tires put on the wheels I have now

those screws would NOT keep the rotor from moving any more than the lugs even if there is play in them.

The 66.1 centering rings are too small. I have those at home and they won't fit with the rotors. Like I said, I'll be test fitting 68.1 rings in the spring.

I just got cheap chinese blanks. As long as the size is correct, 350Z Brembo, then that's all that matters.

EBC Ultimax with the RL BBK, and Brembo blanks for the rear. Akebono pads all around. Haven't installed yet but I got the parts sitting here just trying to get the last bit of life off my current brakes.

P.S. Mods should merge this with the big RL Caliper thread

Which ever is designed to fit the Brembo 350z cars. They have larger rotors then the standard 350z

I have an 01 tl type s and i have the 06 rl calipers. I wanted to know if there are any other rotors that would fit on a 01 tl other than the 350z track edition. Would the rl rotors work?

01 tl did not come in type s unless you did a motor swap. everyone I've seen is using 350Z rotors. a lot have been using ebc aftermarket rotors and pads.

No, you need rotors for the 350Z Track Edition.

The RL rotors are 5x120 as well.
