GTi VR6 Vs. CL-S
GTi VR6 Vs. CL-S
My friend just got his Exhaust installed. He also has an Intake.
His GTi is like a 2000 or something and he has the 5speed. I asked him if he wanted to race and he accepted.
We headed off to a dark country road with no one around but me, him, and some friends to watch the race.
We had someone with a flag to tell us when to go.
What I do:
turned off Traction Control
Put it into 1st gear gate
Brake TQ to 1,500rpms
We both start and he gets a jump because he has a manual and starts to walk on me most of 1st gear. Once I reach the upper half of the rev range, I start to gain and catch up. I moved the shifter into "2" and it shifts at about 7,100rpms. In 2nd gear, he again starts to walk on me but once the revs are above 6,300rpms, I start to gain and I finally get ahead of him. In third gear, he's at my door and stays there until once again I get above 6,300rpms and I start to pull hard this time. In 4th he starts to gain until he reaches my door again, BUT once I'm back into the HP cam's, I start to walk again and continue to until we stopped at 140mph. He was about 2-3 cars back now.
umm ok... why did that small car stay so close?

Power to weight ratio. Those little fuckers are lighter than our cars by a lot.
Watch out for the little MINI Cooper S, those little 4 bangers only weigh about a ton, and have a great balance, and a SUPERCHARGER! They hit the states this month, but I saw them on vacation in Barbados lastmonth. They come with nice paint, 17's and hella cornering ability, these would make great SCCA cars, better than the Miatas, 914's and MR2's.
Little shits can haul ass!!!

Thing hauls all. Ugly as shit though.

2001 GTI VR6 - I ran my friends from 50-120. I beat him pretty bad. 2+ Car lengths, and he had cai, ecu and NOS, but he wasn't using now.
When he used his 40 shot of nos, he pulled on me, but only got 1 1/2 cars on me the same distance, thats it.

I wonder John's view of that race
If you are going to race a GTI vr6.. race them high end.. they have no top end.. they have first 1 2 3 gears real short.. and great low end torque.. so if you race for a dead stop.. thats a going to be a suprise..
