GS 400 vs CLS neck and neck! =)

Well I was on my way to my other contract when I was on M L King highway and a guy in pimped out blk gs400 and I are lined up at the light on Sheriff Rd. The road ahead goes for about a 200 feet turns into one lane and there are orange cones narrowing the lanes to one. Well, dude in the GS has his music on full blast and me with my windows up. I didn't know if he was going to race or not until I started edging up to the cross walk. I noticed dude is doing the same thing. His lane cuts out and he has to merge me so this will have all out WOT! Well, I through the shifter into D1, patiently waiting for the light. GREEN! we are off through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear using the gate shifter we were neck and neck. It got to the point we playing chicken to see who would let who over. As we approached the last cone, he braked and i went through and he moved over behind me. As we passed the cones and the road opened back to three lanes he pulled beside me and gave me a knodd and thumbs up. Cool guy! He slowed down and I continued in my hurry fashion as usual. I don't know what year the GS400 was but that had my adrenaline pumping! I don't think I will do that again for we could have wrecked. We both were determined to reach the end of the merge and that was cool he gave up first. I am SO happy with my auto! Seems to be running strong. To bad for the GS guy! hehe!

Yeah, the GS400 is not as quick as I thought. Stock for stock, the CL-S can hang with it in the 1/4 mile. Beyond that, well, the gearing will take over and the GS will say "Buhbye".

Now, the GS430, well that might be a different story.

People talk about the GS400, but not the SC400. They have the same engine don't they? If so, can I assume that the coupe is lighter and faster?

Not true the SC430 is a convertible hardtop therfore it weighs more.

This is almost the exact same experience I had with a GS400 a while back which I posted on this board. It was a dead even race - the most dead even race I have ever experienced. It seemed like we had the exact same engine. We both didn't launch very hard, which probably gave me an advantage.

BTW, I have headers and an intake. Do you have headers?

Cusdaddy - No headers yet! AEM CAI, NGK plugs, pullies. If I had my way again, I know i could have beat him by a half a car or more if I lost the junk in my car and trunk (two Cpu towers, two monitors, two printers, three boxes of software, mini server rack, box and subs.

Are you sure you werent running a GS300? I saw a stock GS400 last year run a 14.3 at Battle of the Imports. I find it hard to believe that a CL-S can be dead even with a GS400.

Hey, I never, ever said the CL-S was a slouch, in no shape or form. In my races with my best buds CL-S, I always said it was a close race with me coming out ahead. So I can believe this race.

1. I have met GS 300 owners with 400 badges they are a focking disgrace to the Lexus community.
2. Big chromey wheels bling bling and make you lose lose races. Heavy T.Vs and stereo eqiupment does not help either.

Honestly, good race dude.

To answer SC 400 questions.

92-94 models 250hp and 250 lbs torque (there is a line in the lower center grill)
95-97 models 260hp and 260 lbs torque (there is NO line in the center of the grill)
98-00 (no 01 model) 290hp and 300lbs torque (VVT-i added along with 5-speed auto). lower body kit added, small grill in fron bodywork.

So great win! Remember when cars are only 1-1/2 sec. apart 0-60, jumps mean EVERYTHING. You got to get a great jump.

And the GS 400 and 430 have almost the same times. 0-60 the GS 400 does a 5.7 GS 430 5.8. 1/4 mile, GS 400 does a 14.4 and 430 a 13.9 (I know, Motor Trend must drive all their test vehicles on space shuttle fuel).

GS 400 and 430 has same hp rating (300) the GS 430 has it's peak hp about 1000rpm LOWER around 5200 I think.

GS 430 has 325 lbs torque to GS 400s 310. GS 430 loses e-shift, which I can control my 2-5 gears on the steering wheel.

This is my dirty GS........

Naw, I gain respect for people and vehicles when they PROVE themselves. The CL-S/TL-S is no doubt fast as hell. Damn, I am getting old or something And these CL guys are pretty cool as fock taking the snapping like a champ. Hell I got to many friends owning the CL/TL.

U STILL have not raced a GS4!?!!? Damn!

I have much respect for the GS 400/430. Do I think an Auto CLS can beat a GS? Naah. I believe ThoroDredCLS. He didn't say he beat the GS. Just kept up with it. A GS300 would be a complete blow out.

I have intake and headers, and I still wasn't able to pull on one. I was able to keep even until 70mph (I am sure then he would start pulling away after 80-90).

A friend of mine at work has a GS400 with a Borla exhaust, some sort of intake, and some other work, and there is no way I would even attempt to race him.

A 6-speed CL-S should be a good race though. I am waiting to see one of those stories.

BTW, my old college roomate used to borrow his fathers SC400. He at first leased the 260hp model, then upgraded to the 290hp model a year later. The 260 model was fairly slow. It was geared so it had no power down low. He couldn't even ever break the rear tires loose unless it was raining. It only seemed fast on the highway. The second (290hp) was faster, but he still got his ass handed to him by a GS400 once.

Re: GS 400 vs CLS neck and neck! =)

Geesh guys, if you would have read what I wrote you would have noticed I said .....

I didn't go into details because I didn't need too. When I said Pimped Out

1) He had a SYSTEM remember I said His music was on full blast. I had my windows up and still heard his music over my music and I have a pretty loud system myself.

2) He was riding on some huge ass chrome rims.
3) I don't know what else dude had in his car or how much he weighed.

Conclusion....Race is a race, he chose one w/ me and I never said I beat him. I probably could have b/c my car runs strong with the low-end power mods i have. We didn't get to 100mph or 80mph we had to merge. In that area (ghetto) not to many people (if any) mod there car for speed. Mostly people around there do cosmetic mods, and exterior looks. He may had a BIG weight factor, I don't care, he let me over, we didn't argue and he gave me thumbs up!

I drive a GS400 and I'm in Dallas if you ever want to make a run. I like hitting the tollroad on Sat or Sun mornings. Much much safer. Later.

He was not on

NO WAY IN HELL DID YOU GO NECK TO NECK WITH A GS400!!!! NO WAY. Unless he was not all the way on it. Bash and flame all you want guys . IT WONT HAPPEN. I have eaten more CL-S's and TL's than I could even count. Fast-yes they are. Nice-certainly they are. I like them. I almost bought one except Acura would not sell one to me that week because of some seatbelt recall. It was a TL-S.
Then I drove a preowned certified GS4 and fell in love. But a GS400? NO WAY.
Get a 6 speed with headers and exhaust and then you will have a fast car.
Till then im all over So Cal. White GS400. Ltune badges. Lowered. Oval 4.5" tips.Chrome factory rims. Find me, beat me or go neck to neck with me and I will buy you lunch where ever the hell you want. I will even post the race on both CL and this site.
Now that is putting $$$$ where my mouth is.

Sounds like a GS300 with a GS400 badge. Very very common im finding.I beat one in my SC400 and got excited till I found out he was a GS300. This actually happened twice in my SC400. Like putting a CLS badge on a CL.

Now flame all you want. It only counts on the street. Find me and hope I do not spot you because I will trounce on you like you have never been trounced on.

I'm in San Diego and I'll take you up on that offer. Let me know when you're in town and we'll do it and I'll get it on tape.

Do you have any perf mods?

two of of my co-workers had the same debate last week:
'00 gs400 and 03 cl-s 6 speed. (both stock)

from stop:
cl won twice by about a car length . (they ran up to ~ 90)

from ~20 MPH roll
too close to call both times.

For the RECORD, I have never lost to any TL-S or CL-S on the road. NEVER. Not from a roll, not from 0, defintely not over 100 mph. My best bud (AGAIN) has a CL-S, we have driven each others cars multiple times. We have raced, HIM IN MY GS 400, ME IN HIS CL-S and I LOST everytime.

Doc, we can get him to come to our meet next week, maybe we can tape it. The CL-S is not slow at all, extremely quick, but not GS4/540 fast.

Doc, we can get him to come to our meet next week, maybe we can tape it. The CL-S is not slow at all, extremely quick, but not GS4/540 fast.
Is your friend stock not what are his mods? What are your mods?

well i have an SRT intake/ecu. i dont have the torque converter, so racing off the line should be fun. not being arrogant but i dont really think it would be fair were i to have to the TC. i raced a guy with very similar mods (engine-wise) as me, save that he had a TC, this weekend. from a roll, it was dead even. from a light, he put about 2 cars on me by 80. those damn things work. he dynoes at around 300 tq with the converter, while i get around 250 or 260. of course its a spike, then the curves normalize. also, i am getting the supra TT limited slip in the next couple of weeks and it has a 3.76 gear. so if this is gonna happen, it should be soon. i invite some of you guys to the meet this sat at andrettis. there should be mostly IS's and a few of us GS's there. the GS's will be stock engines, save for mine. i would post a link but AOL keeps booting me everytime i go to is300.net. go there ( www.is300.net ) and look under all together now and get the info. hope to see you guys there.........

1sicklex - To be fair, you guys STOCK are faster than our cars, so a modded cl-s vs. a Stock GS4 I would lean towards a CL-S but to have a modded GS4 (which is already fast stock) against a modded cl-s I would lean towards the gs4. I am not stock but I have enough modds to stick with a gs4 (stock) in 1st, 2nd 3rd gears. Now if I were to add headers and sticky tires, I would take both of you up for the challenge win or lose.

The guy I was racing definitely didn't have a gs3, I completely demolish those. So, to be that close with the dude in the gs4 i was racing, I have a little more confidence in my car. Especially if i take out some of the stuff in my car.

Quick Reply: GS 400 vs CLS neck and neck! =)
