Grey Leather Interior

I went to look at a 2001 CL Type-S that I think I might end up buying. It's black and is fully loading (including the Nav). Only problem is that it has grey leather. I had hoped it was black. Am I stupid for thinking of passing up a good deal just because of the interior? Maybe it would grow on me. What do you guys think of the grey leather?

Yeah, the leather only came in Ebony (Black) or Parchment (Tan) interiors. The carpet and some of the trim is grey, but the leather itself it Black!!!!! I would go back and make sure you saw what you saw!! Take you digi cam and take pics if you can. Maybe you found something RARE, or you need new glasses!!!!

The interior was definitly grey and it had the wood trim, not the grey marble looking trim I usually see. It's a private seller.

Could it be a first gen CL? One of my buddies' '98 3.0 had grey leather.

Its definitely not a stock 2nd gen CL for sure, as the above people have already said.

It's doubtful, but it could be a custom job. Unique*TL (from A-TL) has a blue/parchment leather interior.

But for sure, '01 Type-S came off the dealer lot with ebony(black) leather/blackwood trim or parchment(tan) leather/burlwood trim.

I suppose one could also argue that black is just REALLY dark grey.

This is not an 01 CL-S. Sounds like a 1st gen for sure. Do you have any pics of the car. We do want to help ya. Don't want you buying a car you THINK is a TYPE S, that isnt!!!!!
Let us know, we won't steer you wrong. Well at least not untill AFTER you buy the car!!!!!

Maybe it's just black leather that was neglected.

Or even better, really dirty parchment that looks gray.

I think he's was parchment, but he bought paint to dye certain pieces blue.

Maybe the leather was exposed to too much sun and changed from black to grey

No. It is definitly grey leather, it is definitly a 2nd generation CL, and it is definitly not an Accord (I'm not an idiot). I talked to the guy selling the car today. He verified that it was in fact a 2001 Type-S. He said that grey leather was only available on cars with black exteriors in 2001. He's sending me the VIN tonight so I can verify it is a Type-S on CarFax.

I have the VIN number. Is there a way for me to make sure it is a Type-S from the VIN? I ran it through AutoCheck.com, but any CL (Type-S or not) comes up as "CL Base Model". I tried grabbing some VIN's from Ebay just to make sure. It says the same thing for both. Any other ideas?

From Acura CL FAQ: http://www.geocities.com/gamesmgr/chod/acura/#Info17

The CLs VIN format is:
19U: Honda
YA4: CL
2: 2-door/5-speed Auto
n: 3=base, 4=premium, 5=premium w/Navi, 6=Type S, 7=Type S w/Navi

19UYA42(?)

So, that eighth number on the vin better be a 6 or a 7 for the car to truely be a Type-S.
Works on mine:P

You know, I bet it is just GREY LEATHER !! Everyone said it was impossible for my 2001 3.2 CL-S to be blue, but it IS in fact blue (original paint, from the factory). So maybe... the leather is GREY and it's from the factory plain and simple.

My $.02

Yeah, but EVERYBODY on the forum knows that Aegean Blue Pearl is an 01 color. It didn't come out till May. It's not in the brochure, and its not even in the 01 helms manual!!! But it exists!!! I have NEVER seen or heard of Grey Leather on an 01 CL-S!!!!! I really want to see the pics.

Just to fuel the debate a little more until I buy the car and get some pics. Has anyone noticed that the interior picture for the 2001 CL Type-S on kbb.com shows grey leather? Here it is:

Kelly Blue Book -- 2001 Acura 3.2CL Type-S

:P lol

Anyway, since this seems to be a very rare color combo for a 2001 CL-S, do you guys think it would raise or lower the resale value of the car in the future? Just something I was wondering about today.

Yea, that’s just Parchment with some “strange” camera lighting.
You can see it pretty clear near the floor by the hood release switch.

i bet there are CL's going around with grey leather. maybe it was a factory mistake. i have heard/seen first gen 3.0 CL's with cloth interior, so it wouldnt be that hard to believe if it was infact grey.

That's definitely parchment... especially since it's a Type-S interior.... only parchement has the wood trim... otherwise it would be blackwood!!
