Great Mileage on 400mile Trip

Drove from Atlanta to Cary NC this weekend, which was a 428 mile trip with 3 12-yr old girls, luggage, and AC on the whole time, and I got 30 mpg. Coming back home by myself, I was into VTEC a lot averaging 70mph including all the stops (usually cruising at 85-105mph with Valentine One) and got 28mpg. Didn't use cruise control. Have 9500 miles now, so I guess it's broken in. Anyway, thought I'd share these figures. Did the same drive 2 years ago in my Prelude SH and was tired and cramped after the trip. With the CLS, I was fine - so comfortable with the adjustable seats. Our cars are so nice and stable at speed.

But the Comptech springs and Toyo Proxes T1S I added help a lot.

If you're not getting mileage like this, maybe you should take your car in. Around town I usually get 20-24 mpg with AC on.

My usual mpg is around 25.5 to 26.5 which is 75% freeway commute and the rest stop and go. On a recent 250 mi trip to Sacramento, I got over 30!! Most of the time, I was doing about 75-80, A/C on, CD playing, driving in comfort. The CL is great on long drives, IMHO.

great to hear the good news on your gas mileage

My brother said the same thing. "I would love to take this car to L.A., the seats are so comfortable and pimp!" He drives a Type-R, which I cannot SIT in for more than an hour...neither can he, hahah...

The Prelude and ITR seats are the most uncomfortable Honda seats I've ever sat in, while the Type S seats are the most comfortable IMO

damn! I average 20.5 MPG around town/HW (short trips) and on long trips, 26 MPG. So, if there is something wrong with my CLs how can I corrrect it?

Any ideas?

Why would the tires help? I thought ya lost mpg with aggressive tires?

I guess the springs make the car more aerodynamic with less drag. That could be it.

3 12 year old girls? I hope they were your daughters or something. Just went on a trip to D.C. this weekend. 392 miles for the tank. I can't wait to get headers and CAI. I should get crazy gas mileage

Tel1sps,

Sorry, I meant the tires and springs helped with the high speed stability, not with the mileage. Tires have probably reduced the mileage, which is why I am so happy with 30mpg.

I made a round trip from Nashville to Asheville, NC a couple of months ago and flirted with 33mpg (32.9). I was very pleased although I still get low 20's around town. Well, after all, that's what our car is rated for.

I usually get 19-20 miles to the gallon. All I do is backroad/town driving though. Stop, go for two blocks, stop. Go for 1/4 mile, stop. Go for a block, stop. That sucks for mileage.
Last tank though I took a trip (120 miles round trip) and drove 4 days to work on my usual stop & go route. I still averaged 26.5 mpg on that tank. The potential for good mileage is there, I just don't use it with where I work.

The only time I can get close to 30 mpg on road trips is when I'm sleeping in the passenger seat and my girlfriend is driving. Otherwise, I get around 22-25 mpg on average.

You guys getting 28+ mpg,

a) You cannot be going faster than 30mph, ever!

b) You cannot be out of neutral when going down inclines.

c) You must be drafting huge semi's on big fast interstates.

d) You actually do not know how to calculate your mpg.

e) Your odo is broken.

f) You have 3-lb rollers, all of your glass is plexi, your fuel is hydrogen, and you've tossed all of your switch gear, lighting and sheet metal.

g) Your not driving a CLS.

h) Your all mahvalous! Good Job!

I'm amazed as I cannot get more than 22mpg, EVER. I'm jealous.
