the one with the 6sp., i would agree. one thing is for sure though, the boxsters was definately FASTER. the 6sp. driver also drove the porsche, and he did much better with it, usually ahead of me until 80. and he only had the boxster for 1 week where as he's put 4k miles on the g.
btw, hes gotten alot better with the g, yet he still cant take me. the closest he has been is 1 car length exact, although it took alot of time for me to gain such grounds.
i think with perfect shifts he could possibly be tied, but i highly doubt he can take me. my new brakes lighter weight really helped me in this case, i dont think this is something that should be ignored.

finally, i honestly dont care if my car, or any other tl/cl with mods can take a stock g. when i run cars that are very similar in perf., i am running the driver, not the car!!

GSDave,
With the times you are running, i would bet 50 bucks that you would win a g35c by over 3 car lengths!!!

How can you say this???

First, you say you're running the driver. Then you say, GS Dave can take them by 3 car lengths? So what if Dave runs up against someone who can drive a 6mt G well. Afterall, it's the driver right?

So by your logic, even if the driver is good, you'll still win?

Until I see your car trap at 100mph, you're not faster than the G. You may be a better *driver* than your friend, but that's about as far as it goes.

But the ability to hold the gear longer allows the CL-S to have an advantage at points. But the power deficit hurts it in other places.
Agree on shifting points, however as you stated CLS power deficit and RWD + TORQUE for G35 creates a true winner.

I wish CLS had RWD

I'll add my two cents:

1 - G35c is a superior performance vehicle to the CLS (and note I said performance as other stuff is subjective)

2 - I agree with power in that getting the jump from a roll is key. I raced a CLS (bulldog01) with similar mods from a roll and if I get the jump I can pull on him and vice versa. This is from a roll. from a dig he is just a better driver (ie knows his car better and pushes it harder) so he can smoke me.

Anyway, nice death mantis.

Though it sounds like i am contradicting myself, i actually based this on some thought involving 1/4 mile times. Assuming the best times gs dave and a g can pull, it would be roughly 13.8 vs. 14.2

gsdave: 14.3X.9696=13.8 at sea level
this would mean that even if the gcoupe was driven like it was stolen, by a driver equal in skill to dave, that dave would win every time by a good margin.

im sure dave can improve his times even furthur with more practice, and ESPECIALLY WITH BETTER RUBBER. so even if the can get into 14 flat, dave would still be ahead.

dave would you care to chime in on this yourself? or anyone else?
scrib, the only question i have to you is this:
given a good driver with the G35c (not some professional ass dude, just someone who is pretty good at shifting/launching without destroying the clutch) from a 20 mph roll with ME, who do you think would win? ill include my sig so you can see the exact mods.

Thanks for the clarification, power. Didn't realize Dave was running at a higher elevation. I thought his GS was quicker than the times he's posted recently.

To your question... In all honesty, the G should win. More torque down low, more HP... Especially if we're talking a 6sp.

But again, I'm not discounting your claims and/or experiences. I'm just going off my research, discussions, etc.

Bottom line... I owned a CLS, but didn't have headers. I've driven a CLS with headers, so I have some idea of what the car feels like. Truthfully... My G feels quicker. Times posted from G drivers and modded CLS drivers support my thought. But again, anything is possible. Given equal drivers, from a 20mph roll and they left at the same time, G35.

The G35 sedan is 260 or 265 and the coupe is 285. I lost to a coupe by about 1 car length when we shut down at 110. The sedan I took by over a car length.

yeah, i know what you mean. the thing is my car is not setup with just headers. better tires, crank pulley(this is what really helped me, otherwise an auto g can pull on me!), headers, icebox, and a little bit lighter in the front.
all these things add up. anyways, i really dont care about which is faster as i said. for now, i know my car na is quicker than the few g35's i have run. with boost, it wont even be a contest anymore, so all this wont apply, for me at least.

glad we understood each other in the end. enjoy the car for what it is!

If you like the shitty rims, no aero kit (any level), no winter package, no sun package, no navi, then you have the 29k g35c. I'll pass.

If NISMO stands for Nissan Motorsports then doesn't that mean HOMO would stand for Honda Motorsports?

Mantis,

What do you think would be said about this match up?

G35C Auto with S/C verses TLS with Icebox, Toyo T1-S and light weight wheels?

You know which race I'm talking about . . . :P

Ah, you remember the really nice looking red G35C with the custom grill and S/C.

Too bad the 2 drivers didn't have the track experience needed to beat a lil old TLS.

Too bad Danny didn't get that on video . . everyone was too busy oogling the red G35C.

You got it!

He did have a faster time, but at the track it's the one that crosses the line first that wins.

Basically I killed him off the line by 2 car lengths and had a 4 10ths better reaction time. He just couldn't catch me in time. But he was closing pretty good the last couple of 100'.

The fact that I ran a 14.58 made it even harder for him to catch me.

If I recall he would have had to run a 13.9x to beat me and he only (only) ran a 14.1.

G35C have a hard time getting traction. My friend with a stick G35C was running 15's until he got his launch down. Then its a 14.5. So.... if a s/c'd G35C gets a lousy launch at the track it could very well lose to a slower car.

On the other hand a G35c auto with an intake ran a 13.8 with a good driver. I witness both of these runs at a drag strip in cold dry weather.

Oh and was this at bracket race or headsup?

Basically what you said.

I blew him off the line and he couldn't catch me in time. Some of his buddies came by after the race and told me they couldn't believe how fast I got off the line.

I still have a video of a race against a SC430 where I did the same thing. Even I was amazed at how fast I jumped out on these guys. But hey, I started drag racing almost 28 years ago so I have a bit more experience at the xmas tree than most.
