got pulled over - cop thought I was smoking pot

Yep. Driving at 1am on an almost empty suburban road(County Line in NE Philadelphia), obeying speed limit, in the right lane, very perfect driving. the pig stops one car behind me, so I am thinking "hmn, why did he get pulled over". 5 minutes later I see lights in my rear window. I stop, and can't think of any reason why I got pulled over. The pig approaches me and the first question he asks me "Are you smoking marijuana tonight?" I was like **DUH** NO ?! He puts his nose in my car for few seconds and says: "Its obviously you are not smoking, I smelled something in the air and was not sure from which car it was coming. Have a good night". Did not even ask for my license. I should have asked for his badge number and file a complaint for this lame ass reason to get pulled over. Its the most rediculous excuse I ever heard for pulling people over. stupid pigs, I thought they should be busy looking for terrorists or criminals... what a waste of taxpayers money

I should've told him "Well, not tonight... but when I went to Amsterdam I did smoke it and I did inhale"

Or maybe he wanted to smoke it after he smelled it

Whats messed us, is that cars are going 50MPH.... I don't know how the f.... its possible to smell marijuana coming from a car at this speed? Maybe the cop is really stupid and don't know how it smells... or maybe he just has nothing to do and just creates work for himself....

so say a cop sees a young adult drive past him says he smelled pot in the air as he drove by, but thought thats a stupid reason to pull him over and doesnt. 2 miles up the road, this person slams into your mom/dad/brother/sister and kills them in a bad accident. turns out he was high as a kite and they find a pipe in the car with pot inside it. is this still a "lame ass" reason to investigate his suspicions? think about it.

If the cop gave you hell then it is OK to complain. He didn't so what was the problem?

What reason is there to complain? Marijuana has a very distinct smell as most people know, and I sure as hell wouldnt want some stoned dumbass driving next to me on the expressway. If he searched your car and made a big scene I could see why you would be agitated, but he was just doing his job, so stop whining.

And I have smelt marijuana on the expressway numerous times. It doesnt take a whole lot of it to know it's there, especially if the person has their windows rolled down.

I disagree. There should be a "reasonable doubt" or moving violation to pull over someone. They can't just pull-over people because they "they thought they smelled something but not sure from which car". They better know exactly where the problem is, otherwise leave me the f... alone. If I drive without breaking any laws, leave me ALONE !

Drug and illegal firearm smugglers can drive without breaking the law. Should they not be pulled over for suspicion of illegal traifficking?

Only if there is a "reasonable" doubt to suspect. Otherwise constitution does not work....

Based on your description of the events, I'd say the cop made up a BS reason to pull you over and that's completely unacceptable. Doesn't sound like the cop followed standard operating procedures by just sticking his head in the car and not asking for identification. If you knew who the cop was and reported the incident, I would bet he didn't even radio in your traffic stop. Just happened to smell something with his trained nose? Oh, come on ... he attempted to dream up some BS probable cause. IMHO, probably just trolling for a late night violation.

If the cop was looking for someone that fit a person's description / profile, I would suspect they would have treated the traffic stop quite a bit more by the book with a back-up unit potentially. The cop wouldn't just stick their head in the car and look around for a kidnapp suspect or armed robber or prison escappee or ...
