Got NOS?
Ran with a Camero this morning on the way to work, wasn't an SS, so I figured I'd be able to take him. From a light, I pulled a good 2 cars on him by 60, then all of the sudden he comes flying up and nudges in front of me. Virtually as soon as he jumped a head, he fell back again and I had atleast a car length and was still pulling. Then at about 100, he comes flying up and gets just a head of me again. My turn was coming up, so I shut it down and he went on his merry way. My question: Was he spraying? Unless he was just messing with me, I don't see what else would have caused things to happen like they did. I'm not even sure this was a V8 camero...looked like the budget version

i would have to say yes, especially if it was the v6. If it were the v8, he was probably messing w/ you. The new one's are a tough kill, unless you have spray, but remember, they are putting 300hp to the wheels, so they should be able to take most CL's....good run though

i beg to differ, the camAro z28's aren't all that much faster than ours. And the only one putting 300 to the ground is the SS SLP package. Trust me from experience, one of my good friend has one and we've gone back and forth many times, my car as is.. is dead even with his.

Revving at 9K...
I agree with RobG, I used to have a 95 Z28, good low end, but the car runs out of RPMs real fast due to low red line. So it think it might pull right in the begining, but I think our cars will catch up in very short time.
Also, from 93-96 z28's, I know for fact that they have clutch problems. I had to change my clutch before I sold mine.. it was slipping soo bad, and it costed my around $1000 to get it replace.. :'(

Not trying to be mean... But i seriously think, he got a lead on the Z28, is because they have sucky launching, reaction is slow, but once they got hook, they DO have the torque to pull from behind... and the way he explains it..... I think his is a stick, and he doesnt know how to launching the car, so you had a lead, but once he got his traction and rpm, he zoom from behind... then once its time for him to change gear, he has a slow shifting skill, so you pulled again, but once hes into gear, he pull again....
I truly believe Z28 is a ALOT strong than ours car.... MAINLY due to his V8 torque.... BTW, if a Z28 spray, you think you even have a chance to get close to him????? I DONT THINK SO! Z28+spray = ByeBye to CLS!

I would say you ran a V6.
Realistically, if the two of you had equal driving ability, you wouldn't even be close enough to see him at 100. LS1's put 300-315hp to the ground completely stock, not to mention the 100ft-lb torque advantage.
Looking at your signature, your car appears to be bone stock so I would say that either the camaro was a V6 or he was just driving and didn't really notice you racing along side.

That's a bone stock camro. The SS is good for 315 easy. It's basically just the ram air in the front.
Too bad your friend with his camaro must have been a old LT1, or maybe a 1980's camaro... cuz the new LS1 will roll you up and smoke you.

i dont feel like typing them so look down. But on the contrary the only time his car beat mine was when i drove because i know how to. I even let my friend who can almost drive like me(sounds concieted) drive his car and i still beat it. maybe i got one of those steroid cars, i dunno but from a roll and stop i've beaten him. only by like half a car-car but i still won

Don't give me that crap about area under a curve either, because you got a LOT less. Especially when u look at the torque curve... you'd get owned.
If you're beating your friends Z... then he needs to learn how to drive. Either that, or he needs to learn where second gear is. Actually, I bet he'd still beat you in the quarter, skipping second gear.

Happy CL-S Pilot
Those Camaros with the LS1 engine ( Corvette engine ) can do 13.2-13.5 anyday anytime... no reason to race ... by the 1/4 miles they are 10+ car length ahead... We need a SC 6-speed just to compete.

There's always so much variability built into all these arguments, i just love them. Owning both...granted i don't have a 6 spd cls, nor have i ever run mine at the track, so perhaps i've got a dud..but a cold air, header equipped CLs is no match for my auto SS or my brothers m6 t/a, from a roll, stop, etc.
Over a second and 10 mph in the 1/4 just doesn't look right when you're behind.
Granted i've seen some LS1s running high 13s in the low 100s but those have been higher milage, autos with less than fantastic drivers. I've also seen some idiots who can't drive M6s better than 14s.
In the end when you consider well driven samples the CLs is a luxury tourer and the f bod a 1/4 mile rattle trap...with different ambitions in life.
I'm yet to see or hear about a 'ringer' CLs, even a 6 spd getting into the 13s or over 100 mph traps. The best running LT1 (non SS/hawk) is mid 13s at 103, LS1 is high 12s at 109, add the packages and i've heard of a 13.3 lt1 hawk (well had k&N), and seen a 12.7 ss..man was the track hooking that night.
