got a ding in the windshield today

Damn, bad luck all around. On my way back from dealer with newly-issued liscense plate on my spanking new type S. Then it happened. I almost saw in slow motion, a piece of rock flying towards my windshield, followd by a heart-stopping "ding".

I am looking at this damn 1 inch crack now. What should I do? Replace the whole windshield seems a bit excessive with such a small crack but would it spread? My insurance covers all glass with no deductible but I don't know if my rate will go up after this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I got a white type-S with nav and nose guard. I love this car.

thanks

I had the same thing happen yesterday. The guy i talked to at the dealership said that it would cost like 600$ to replace the entire windshield. However, they can fix alot of cracks, dings etc., Look in the yellow pages and find windshield repair specialist.

I had a chip repaired by a glass repair guy. Took him about an hour and cost $40. My insurance paid for it all and it didn't affect my rate. He injected a resin under high pressure into a small hole he drilled over the crack. If you look real close you can still tell where it was, but it's guaranteed not to spread.

I got one the other day also, an evil one (F*ing conversion van )....car is going in on Monday to have the $1500 in body work done, so I am debating to have it resin filled (I have done it before, and if the crack is bad enough- you will still see it) or get a new windshield...$600 is steep for a standard windshield (no antenna in it or anything).

Really wish I hated cars.

The crack will definitely spread, especially if the windshield gets wet and the temp. gets cold. The same thing happened to my brother's 02 TL. On the day the guy was coming over to do the resin thing, the crack had gone from about the size of a quarter to about 4 inches in length. He had to get the windshield replaced. This was like close to two weeks after the crack was made.
