Got the CL back from the bodyshop and they painted....

....the grill

i dunno whether to be upset or glad

i mean, i think it looks kinda good actually and i know people get it painted since it looks different. the shop did it by mistake and i only noticed it when i got home.

what do u guys think? ya think the paint would flake off on the bottom grill since its not really suppose to be painted? its the same paint thats on the rest of the car so i'm assuming it has flex-additive.

also, off-topic, one of the fake fog-lights is out and the plastic is cracked. how hard is it to replace the bulb and plastic cover? should i just take it to the dealer?

the vertical supports of the lower intake should stay black, you can allways go back in there with a marker or black paint tho. nice.

As far as the painting of the grill goes i wouldn't be upset at all. It looks 10x better this way. People have paid for specifically do get that done by itself.

I know i'd be happy.

From the pics it looks like the paint job was done well. How does it look in person from close up?

rondog... i agree, but i'd look like an ass going back and saying to paint only the lower intake grill and not the vertical supports.... "so... correctly only paritally..."

does anyone here have the lower intake grill painted like that?

personally, I'd be pissed. I was very relieved that they didn't paint it when they painted my car. I think it looks horrible. Also, if they didn't do it right it'll start chipping and pealing in time.

I also don't like the vert supports: I don't have mine painted, but was just trying some diy mods for my meager income and put some chrome molding on just the vertical supports on both upper and lower grilles. I had them on for a couple weeks but recently took of the lower ones since I really didn't like the look.

My suggestion would be to cover them up with some black vinyl (not elec tape... thats ghetto get some from a local custom vinyl sticker/ sign maker)

Definitely leave the horizontal piece and everything else silver tho! I really like it!

weird thing. the same shop replaced and painted my bumper back in february and they didn't make this mistake, they painted it to spec. i guess someone wasn't following the chart or whateverthefuck they have when they were painting it this time.

i had my front painted that why when a prof backed up into me, it looks too "bright" with the fog lights installed so i put the 03 vents to take there place.

The grill is the same material as the rest of the bumper. This is what I have been told by the Acura parts guys at two locations AND by a paint/body shop. I got a couple of scrapes on the passenger side of my front bumper, so I decided to look into the issue. (It is fixed.)

If the paint was good, it will probably hold up. OTOH, there is a fair amount of air moving through the grill, so it's hard to know how much more "grit" will fly through the grill and eventually make for another area on the front bumper that will take some pitting.

And, a good body shop should pay attention to details.

If you are bugged by the look, they should fix it without any complaints. Removing the front bumper and spraying it is not a big deal.

The main concern -- at least for them -- would be related to any prep work that they did to allow the primer, paint + flex additive + clearcoat to stick to that area well. Perhaps they didn't even wet sand it...

In any event, if you didn't ask for it, and you don't like it, they should make it right.

It really is that simple.

It's not what "WE" like. It's what you like.

How are you going to feel about this in a month? 2 months? 6 months?

If you really think you might be saying something like, "why didn't those idiots just leave my grill alone," you might want to deal with this now.

Thanks for the picture. Now I'm sure I can't stand the look.

After seeing this picture, I'm quite sure that I would be pissed and take it back and ask them to do it to factory spec and if they would like to get "creative" in the future, to please ask first.

What's next? Painting the doors different colors because someone dropped some acid?

And, if the car is leased or someone wants to sell it later, don't be surprised to find out that someone doesn't share the same taste. Mods are not the best thing for resale value (with some rare exceptions).

ericL... good points. it wouldn't say it bothers me that its all painted the same color, it bothers me more that they didn't follow the correct proceedure. for all i know, they didn't even notice it was wrong. i actually do like it tho. it still has to grow on me a little more. i've had the car for four years, so something stupidly different like this looks new and fresh.

diplomat... i got the car done over in PA. it was one of those "guaranteed done right, lifetime warranty" shops the insurance company recommended.

chris... bike is running fine... i'm looking to do some minor mods like the undertail conversion since i think its looking more bland with these new style bikes out recently, also looking into repainting it some wacky crazy color.... can u tell i get tired of things after a while??

Well, an undertail is cheaper than a new bike, so it sounds like the samrt thing to do. I'm thinking of doing new vinyl over the Honda wings...it should be a nice change. If you ever want to head to the beach, holler.

Moe...

The light is hella easy to fix yourself.. Stop up one day. I got all the tools you need.. Except the PIAA bulbs.. You really need to get rid of the stock fog bulbs and get the HID looking ones.

I think I got my lenses for 25 or 30 bucks... Extreemly easy to change also.. Lemme know.. My girl works next to the Acura dealer and could pick them up for ya..

I like the all siver look. Looks more 03-ish now..

Drinks?

I would have it painted as per stock...It sounds like you won't really be happy with it down the road. Once you have it re-done and pick it up you will probably know you made the right decision...

The car looks like it's smiling with a great set of teeth

I think it looks good Yuppie. OTOH, if you don't like the rest of the grille being painted, get a grille like this (link attatched incase Fotki is acting fawked)
