I dont know about the 00 or 01, but the 2002 GTI has been rated at 6.5 0-60 and low 15's in the 1/4. With a chip they gain about 35hp and 50lb torque. They can be little rockets. I am actually considering trading in my CL-S for a 2002 GTI. I miss having a manual and it can be modded so easily if it is the 1.8t. I just dont know about VW quality. I have heard some bad things about them.

I had a 96 GTI for 6 years, and my brother has a 2000 1.8t, we have been extremely happy with them, I didn't change one thing on mine, as far as maintenence goes, and I was golden...My brother's has had some problems with the windows, however this is common of the 2000s and he is getting them fixed for free...but other than that...they drive wonderful
i just really really wanted something faster so I opted for the
2003 CL-S 6M
plus i'm growing up, no more pocket rockets until my midlife crisis...
hope this helps if you want more info on the GTI just ask! I love em!

it was prolly chipped...your not gonna be able to hear the difference between chipped and nonchipped gti's. the only thing you mite hear is the tired screeching alot more with a chipped GTI... if its a 2000 or 2001 it prolly wouldnt beat you without being chipped since we do not have a limited slip differential and your launchin is better that way.

umm a chipped GTI is prolly gonna be faster than a non-chipped 2002 with the 180hp engine....becuz the chip not only adds hp it adds an incredible amount of torque...

well i have the first generation 1.8t...no variable valve timing...not even the ko3 sport...jus the normal ko3 sport...I have the least undertuned of the engines out there, but one good thing is its the one with least problems.
I have it chipped, dropped, CAI, Diverter Valve and that is it for performance. I think a chipped 2002 would basically win...maybe not rite off the line becuz of the amount of torque..he'll jus spin thru 1st, but if he knows how to launch he will win off the line also
There's a guy whos runnin 14.5's on a stock 2002...with no mods wat so ever...

Chipped GTI vs. Stock CL-S 2002
by the way this is me racing a friend of mine...and the 2002 are equipped with the ko3/ko4 hybrid which gives them alot more hp than me...they should dyno at the crank 210hp/242tq with a chip.
That is about 14 hp more than me at the crank

i dont kno about that particular gti...but theres a guy on my forums who's runnin his stock 2002 gti wit a 180hp and 5spd and he jus pulled his new best of 14.5 something....yea hes a good driver but showin that the car is definately capable to hang wit a cl-s 6spd....and that is not even chipped.
Im really not tryin to start an arguement...jus givin some background, as to a lot of people underestimate the car.

i dont kno maybe im jus mistaken or maybe it wasnt read but i see the guy above ran a 14.7 and that is with a lot of things done. This guy on a stock 2002 wit stock tires and all...still ran a 14.5...i would see that as being able to hang.....driver ability is usually the biggest reason someone loses a race...especially when the cars can be compared stock....

here jus take a look at this site...most of these people are jus runnin a chip and downpipe...1/4 mile times
i really dont kno how to convince or to show that a gti can hang besides what im showin you. I kno you raced a gti and you killed it...but i think that driver mite have not been that good....
im not sayin im a good driver either...im actually goin to the track the first time tonite....hopefully i can pull the numbers that i should be pullin, but most prolly will be 1 sec off that time

also look at it this way...the gti comes in jus under 3000lbs with a driver in the car. From the acura website....the cl-s 2003 6spd manual comes in at 3446lbs...plus say a 150lb driver to be on the conservative side.
lets say theres about a 500lbs difference in the cars....this also adds to performance for the GTI

i was also on a shitty track, i had my car for 2 months, it was my first time on a track and i'm definitely a much better driver now. i like gti's but they're not as fast as a cl-s especially 6 speed. They may have the weight advantage but we have the power advantage. Also running at a track is harder then it looks, my first run i ran a 15.7 so after 3 runs i got down to 14.7 and then the track closed up. But i'm going back in 2 weeks so i'll get some better numbers. off topic but my friends civic hatch ran a 13.3 at this track then ran a 12.9 exact same setup and it was actually hotter in englishtown, so the track is also to blame

Read all this and figured I'd add my $.02
Maybe the CL-S (auto) can beat a 1.8T GTI, but I doubt the VR6 GTI. My cousin just finished breakin in his 2002 VR6 GTI (6spd) and I gave it a quick spin. That thing is FAAAAST! We haven't had a chance to go head to head yet, but I have a feeling he'll take me in my TL-S.
Now, the 6spd CL-s...that's another story. That thing should blow them all out. IMO

Not sure about the 1.8T but I can speak about the VR6. My cousin has the 200 hp VR6 and that thing is quicker than my TL-S. Maybe not by a whole lot, but but his stock VR6 is definately quicker than my stock TL-S.
GoGTIGo: to answer ur question, the CL-S/TL-S in stock form, put about 200hp to the wheels.

ok you say 200hp to the wheels and it weighs an extra 500 pounds. There are many people on the boards puttin down around 190 to the wheels with a chip and exhaust. How can someone not figure that the gti can hang.
I was at the track yesterday with a friend who was runnin 14.4's and 14.5's all nite long. All he has is a chip and exhaust...jus something to think about
oh and the 200hp is quick, nice power range through out...

He doesn't know of any headers for the VR6 though. What ones are available for the 200 hp VR6.
Thanks for the help.

I really like the 1.8T... my roommate just got his '01 1.8T GTI chipped and lemme tell ya that thing picks up and goes... I was actually pretty impressed... if only he'd upgrade his turbo we could have a 13 sec. car to ride around in
