you are right about the power mods. with just a little bit of money you can gain alot more power out of a BMW.
You know what, let me rephrase. You're right, I don't think the CL looked like an 01. From the sideview mirror to the back of the car I think it was absolutely beautiful and looks a lot less dated than other cars from that time period.

It is just the front of the car that makes it look dated with that small looking front, it just doesn't look balanced. As for the interior I think that really held up well over the years except for the bowling ball material they used in my 01.

Well if replacing the sound of vtec with actual torque at 1700 rpm like the 335 I'll have to deal with it but perhaps I'll just get a sound clip of a nice sounding CL and play it in my car nice and loud in the 335 when Im flooring it and imagine I'm still driving a Honda. (wow that was one long run-on sentence)

No matter what, my roots are honda and I'll always have a soft spot for our jack of all trade cars.

Haha, Look at the tag on this thread. lol, it says..

Acura, cl, comptech, cooler, make, reliable, transmission

Talk about a bad string of words in a row, I dont think the comptech cooler does that much for the transmission, lol.

Pits, did your car not originally come with Navi? I noticed you dont have the antenna or the Onstar mirror.

Is the turbo spool audible? I was talking to a guy with a 335 and asked if the turbos were loud. He said they weren't. I thought maybe BMW would keep the sound as low as possible for a more comfortable ride.

Too bad the Navi in these cars are outdated. The interior looks great with the screen.

I refuse to buy a car with navi. navi will always go out of date unless you are one of those ppl that get a new car every 2 years. Id rather just install an in dash screen myself. If we have anything these days that becomes collector cars in the future I would assume non-navi cars would be worth more but maybe not.

btw dont take that as me saying the cl will one day be a collector car cause we all know that wont happen hehe.

Factory navi is something like a $2k+ option in most cars and it hurts resale value due to the technology being outdated so quickly. I have a feeling that at some point the navi systems will be fast enough, with enough memory and resolution that they'll stay competitive for several years after their release.

I can't see there being too many more breakthroughs in navigation technology in the upcoming years. The new 335's look really nice with integrated screen. Without it, they look so plain.

Good luck pitts!

My :twocents: are:

1) POS tranny (3x under warranty)
2) POS motor mounts (2x under warranty)
3) POS brake rotors (1x under warranty)
4) poor paint job from factory
5) Squeaky front seat belts
6) POS rear oil main seal
7) POS OEM tires
8) Air Bag recall
9) I'm sure I'm missing a couple more
10) David McDavid Acura Plano Service - screwed up the last tranny replacement. Car overheated 2x, oil leak immediately after their work, blown heater hose a few months later, ah probably due to the overheating problem they directly caused.

We had planned on getting an MDX, but no way now. I even go to Honda dealerships for parts when I need them.

Oh . . . and I do let everyone know about the problems.

Didn't Onstar only come on 03 models?? The Navi is original, the only addition is the navi hack to watch video on the screen.

And what antenna are you talking about??

Hmmmmmm.

Maybe you're right. The antenna must've been part of the Onstar thing on the 03s then. I thought it was available throughout the entire production run.

The 135's are actually total shit compared to the 335 coupes/sedans...I've driven a few and honestly, not impressed. It's more of a car you drive to the track, not on the track. If it were up to me I'd just vie for an e46 M and call it a day.

Either way, congrats on your purchase!

I think the 135s look better then the 3s. I also can't stand the E46 M3. IMO if its not an E30 its not an M3.

Hahaha, I could write a novel with all my Acura Experiences.

I could also upload some awesome pictures of my car getting towed 4 times in 6 months due to poor Acura dealership workmanship.

Well it's official, my car is no longer mine..

Ruf,

Somehow I missed your post but in the last sentence you hit the nail on the head. I've told at least 100 people about my story in regard to Spitzer Acura and many of them trust my opinion when it comes to cars. I may not be an ASE certified mechanic but I do my research and hold my own when it comes to the average person and car knowledge.

And trust me, Spitzer Acura has already lost a few car sales due to their negligence and that will continue. I work in the newspaper industry and I have some connections with consumer reporters who have been notified of this issue with Spitzer Acura and after my legal matters are resolved whether I win or lose, the reporters are going to have nice long talks with the GM of Spitzer Acura who is RICK FORD and his treatment of his customers.

I can't wait to return my TL and have a nice sit down with the people of Spitzer Acura.

I feel your pain...

I think Acura has had a good product, but I am ready to leave the Acura brand as well. I had a 2001 Integra GSR before. I guess they had some crappy piston rings in them or something because I was getting a lot of oil blowby whenever I got into the vtec rpms. ultimately, the piston rod snapped. I swapped in another used motor and sold it (the kid who bought it ended up getting it stolen, so just my luck). Then I bought my CL-S 6spd. I bought it and found out after the fact it had been wrecked befor. the wheel beerings went out and now my unexplainable engine problems and the car has 115k on it. It has also been through two significant accidents, 1 minor accident and 1 keying. The car unfortunately has been a victim. Much of my problems with my two Acuras have taken place on one major street here in town. I have also gotten two tickets on the same street.

I have bought both Acuras from small dealerships on state street, you know the types. both cars have been in accidents. I thought I was good at picking out which cars had been in accidents, but apparently not. The accidents arent acuras fault, but some of the mechanical defects have been. I had a honda CRX before, which was a great car. I got 150k out of it no problem. Im kind of at a loss for why my two acuras havent stood up to the honda reputation.

Lets just say that the 335xi stock is a decently fast car. But with the aftermarket available you can make these cars mid 12's with $2500..

Okay . . first question. Why haven't you been to any of our meets?

As for other recommendations . . . in my opinion it is always a crap shoot. Even the best mechanics screw up now and then. My main beef is that they never owned up to their mistakes and made things right. That said, I've heard from others in our car group that Goodson Acura in Arlington/Irving (?) is pretty good, but it 20+ miles verses a couple.

Anyway, hope to see you on the AcuraZine Dallas/Ft.Worth Crew thread. There's always something going on.

The BM looks hot, but as others have stated I wouldn't touch one. My buddy is finally starting to come to his senses, he is selling his after it has been in the shop for 4 out of the past 12 months...Unfortunately I am not joking.
But good luck with the new car, it definitely looks hot. Keep us posted.

Trust me, the reliability issues were a big concern of mine. But hopefully having a warranty will give me some peace of mind.

Hmm..with the windows down in the 2 at our facility you can hear em . Def hear the wastegate/bov in ours too. Although I supposed they wouldn't make them that loud in actual consumer cars for ride comfort purposes

It is a little louder when going through the drive through .or where the sound bounces off of something like a jersey barrier. Maybe its louder outside the car than I notice but on the inside not so much. I'd like to increase the turbo sound but I'm not a big exhaust person. So maybe there is an intake tweek I can look into

Hey Pits, congrats on the new car! I haven't been on for a bit, but I just read through this thread. I actually just sold my CL too though I still have it until the bank sends the title back to me. I know you had a shitty Acura experience. Mine was a good one which is why we bought a 2006 MDX in January. I'm also buying a 2005 RL within the next few weeks. I considered an older 5 series but safety and reliability won out in the end. You know you're getting old when safety becomes a factor in your purchase! Good luck with the 335, that is a sick ass ride!

Mid Model Change. Thats when Acura put the ugly rear end and fucked up beak on it for model year 2009.
