Good speed shops in New York area?
Anyone recommend any good speed shops that do good work/good prices in the New York borughs area? I want to take a look at a few alternative shops. Heres what happened. I got a quote and went down to get my spring/shock suspension done. They recommended APEX Sport Springs(over the eibach pro kit bc its supposed to have a better ride)www.apexsprings.com(maybe they may be just saying this just bc they sell it!) with Koni Yellows(adjustable). Well they lowered the front but not the back because they said they needed to order some bolts from the acura dealer bc they had to break it in order to get to the rear shocks. Well a week later(and after bottoming out like crazy) The bolts come in and I bring my car in, it goes on the lift. I wait around in the shop..2 hours later the guy comes out and says that the bolts broke on both sides or something and they have to replace the rear bushings to do the suspension. So the car stays up on the lift for a week. So I come back and its done. I ask for the Original springs and shocks back, the response:the original springs and shocks arent good, we had to cut them/destroy them to install your stuff.(is this normal/does it happen often??) btw, the car has about 43k miles on the original suspension. The shop quoted the drop to be about 1.5" They also said that for the front shock, they used the lower perch and for the back shock they used the middle perch. I went to the manufactors website for the springs and it said the application for the 2.2CL is a 1.8" drop and the accord one is a 2" drop. Everyone that has seen the car says the car looks like it was dropped 2 1/2-3 inches! Well, under hard cornering the car bottoms out! Even on fairly good roads, when theres even a slight dip in the road, theres this scraping kinda sound that comes from the front suspension especially the front left part. The scraping sound seems to be more in the front. And on highways like when there is a slight dip or inperfection, theres this scraping kinda noise and it gets scary cuz it loses control for a second. Do you think this is a result of the too low ride height? Should I go back and tell them to put the front and rear on the higher shock perches? I adjusted the koni shocks to a turn and a half, it seems to help out a bit but still bottoms out very easily. So far I am unsatisfied because it seems to have "downgraded" my suspension. Oh yes and lastly, when seen from a level surface, it looks as if the left side of the car is slightly lower than the right side of the car. Whats up with this?? What do you guys think of this situation??

I'm not a suspension expert, but I think you can ask anyone on this board and they're experience on changing springs was definitely not as complicated. Having a car on a lift for a week is unacceptable. It should take no more than 2 hours. How much did this all cost you? Should've been free if you ask me. Not to knock on you about the palce you went to, but was this recommended? I go to this place in Brooklyn off of 8th Ave. It's a bunch of asian guys and looks like a hole in the wall, but they do great work. But if you really want peace of mind you can go to a dealer. The job shouldn't cost much over $100 too. Hope this helps.

I went to Initial D auto salon in brooklyn. Is that the same place you went to?
Well it cost me 900 for the springs/shocks/install and after all was said and done, an extra 75 was tacked on for the busings/bolts...
