Good deal?

I'm usually over in the TL forum as I have a 2000 TL. My brother is looking at an 03 CL white/tan with 91k for around $11,000.

I am familiar with these cars and just had my tranny replaced at 92k on mine. Is there anything CL particular that I need to look for on these? I know it's practically the same as the TL.

I plan on checking the following:

1. VIN# to run a carfax and to plug into ownerlink to see if the tranny has been replaced.

2. All of the body panels to ensure the VIN stamps are still on them and that the car has not been wrecked.

3. Tires and brakes. (and to factor in replacing most likely warped factory rotors)

4. I warned him that the 100k is due, so I told him to factor in a timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs. (I changed my plugs at 60k, worked at the dealer, scored them cheap).

5. Try my best to check for paintwork if I can find any.

The car has alot of miles for its age, so I'm guessing it's mostly highway. I've been pleased with my car and I know they are rock solid. I am keeping mine another 3 years because it's paid for. The only thing I worry about with him getting one of these is the tranny going after 109k. He'll be in for fighting with Acura to help pay for the cost if they even go for that.

What do you guys think? Anything else I need to look for?

My brother is turning 15, getting his permit, and will be driving next year. I think the 6spd would be cool too, but my parents say no manual trannys for his first car. (I am not even going to get into the argument with them).

He'd just thought about getting this car now since it's really nice and within his price range. He's got some inheritance money he wants to use, and of course, he wants an aftermarket sound system and alarm in it.

personally i would not get an auto. with the troubles they have it just isn't worth it. the kid needs a reliable car that is going to last him through college if nothing bad happens, very good chance it will be a bumper car a few times around. plus insurance on a type s isn't to pretty.

Thevikas.....Thanks! I'll ask him if he'd take a dark blue and let you know if he wants me to check on it further.

As for that 03, he went to the dealer today and they gave him a carfax...car's been hit before, so I told him forget it, don't buy it. I put the VIN in ownerlink and it has not had a tranny replaced yet, only the oil jet kit done.

I have almost 94k on my 00TL and the car has been damn good to me and aside from the tranny issue, they replaced the climate control panel under warranty because it shorted out--otherwise no problems with this car at all. I bought it used with 36k on it. It's paid for and I'm keeping it another 3 years. I used to work for a dealership that had an Acura franchise, and usually when a tranny is out of warranty, Acura can either goodwill it or they will work with you and pay for the part if you pay the labor. I know the guys there, so I'm not too worried.
