Gonna buy/found a 03 CLS6 let me know what you think

Found this 03 Anthracite CLS 6 non navi with 76000, talked the place down to $9100 from $9995. The catch is that its a theft recovery. Every freaking Vin sticker/plate was taken off but other than that nothing was taken and 06 TL-S wheels and tires were put on, the place with damn near new tires. The place let me take it to my dealership and I had the head guy from our body shop take a look at and after looking it over he said its never been hit/repainted. After checking it over (full 4 hour inspection including compression test and alignment check) the only issue i found was that i'll need a valve adjustment which is cool cuz I'm a tech here at an Acura Dealership so won't cost me anything here.

It sounds like a good deal to me, mind you the "Theft Recovery" would still make me Leary. Let us know what you decide. Also, I'm guessing the Theft Recovery stays on the title, so I'd be worried about resale value on your end too.

^^^ and certain warranty replcements. Acura doesnt honor warranties/recall on salvage titles. Im not sure about "Theft Recovery" though. Id check with Acura on that.

Theft recovery is just another form of salvage title. The car will have the same kind of diminished value as a vehicle rebuilt after an accident.

Your deal doesn't look so good with a bad title.

its a 03 6spd....come to the dark side young one....there will be no need to resell that badboy...just a reason to make it faster...lol...

on the real i would double check the "theft recovery" and if all is good...get it...now if you plan on reselling then you've been advised by others.

Thanks for all the input guys. Checked with acura and yes all the warrenties are done as soon as a vehilce is issued that brand of a title, no worries there as i work for acura and can get whatever brakes at a little above cost. For the resale I'm not that worried about it I plan on keeping it for as long as I can. If I do ever want to part with it I'm sure I won't have any troble selling it to someone on here as they are becoming so rare. I read the thread on the 9500 deal which is amazing!!! But that dude "had" to get rid of it fast so that's why you got such a sweet deal. And this isn't on ebay or autotrader its literally a mile from my house and i'd rather buy local then seach online and have to ship/fly take off work to get a car that I might not want when I see it in person and only to save a few thousand. I've been looking since I rolled my accord back 7/3, worst way to start out your 4th weekend... Was going to just get a 6spd accord but they are few and far between as well and I really don't like the bodystyle. I was just driveing home and happened to glance over and saw this anthracite 03 CL with TL-S wheels starein me in the face...

Called the place yesterday and basiclly told him I'd take it only they don't have a new title with it. Being that EVERY SINGE vin plate and sticker was removed/shaved away, it needs to get a new title issued from DMV with a new vin plate that needs to be attached and we all know how fast the DMV works so hopfully I'll have it in a week or so. Thanks again for all the input and can't wait to join the ranks.

Insurance won't be a problem all the major companies insure vehicles like these but as many have said resale will be very low. I think you should reconsider and keep looking. Be patient and I'm sure you can find as good as or better deal on one with a good title.

dude, SALVAGE TITLES = NO NO. Trust me. keep looking you'll find one. the only time I would find it okay to buy a salvaged titled vehicle is if I bought a wrecked teg or civic and turned it into a drag car or something. You could buy the car for 9100 today and try to sell it tomorrow with that salvage title, and you'll get half.

I don't see the big deal. It wasn't wreaked then fixed. It was stolen & recovered damage free except the vin etchings. There's a big difference.

As long as I could insure it & I was keeping it for a while I'd have no problems buying that car. Even if you keep it 3 years the car will normally be only worth $5-$6K.

There is a difference but once you have a salvaged/rebuild title your resale value will be much less than a regular title unless you find an uneducated buyer who wants to buy it. Oh and also even though the big companies will insure this vehicle in a claim if its a total loss they will give you much less than the market value of one with a good title

Well...in all reality you've heard everyone's opinion....and im with fuzzy...if its not messed up....and you plan on keeping it for a while and not that worried about resale...then buy it...

"come to the dark side" 6spd FTMFW....or you can spend another year searching and end up with a autotragic while one of these spying members go and snatch up your ride...

That was the only thing that really bothered me was the insurance and the what if's that went along with it, mainly if I just happened to get T boned the next day or something of that sort and only got a check for like four grand. I definatly plan on keeping it for at least 3 years and I'm sure I'll be able to get four grand for it then. Like I said before it has NO body damage what so ever, It was just stolen and recovered, if anything I gained because of the brand new 06-08 TL-S rims with brand freaking new factory Michelins which if you buy from an Acura dealer is at least two grand.

Total2f, did you buy it totaled and fixed it or what? I only ask because I work at a dealer and asked our General Manager about it and his view was jump on. He told me that at auction it would've gone for at least 5-7 grand. This is coming for a guy who has been in the business a good twenty plus years and has been working for Acura about 5 or so.

Once again thanks for all the feedback guys I really appreciate everyone chiming in like this. My whole view on this thing is convenience, don't have to drive anywhere don't have to take off work, and I have had the car in my shop and have meticulously inspected it. I do have a week or two before the whole DMV is sorted out so if anyone comes up with anything else please let me know.

Yeah if you can get it for 5 grand buy it but for the price that you put in your previous post walk away. If you keep this til 20011 or 2012 the only way you will get four grand for it is like I said you sell it to an uneducated buyer. Believe me I know you like the car and your mind is contemplating the possibilities but walk away from this one and get another.

I find it funny anyone is stressing resale. It's a 6 year old car now. $30K new, now worth $10K. In 3 more years, a 9 year old car, resale will be still going down. Whether is has a salvage title or not the car isn't going to be worth much, & will be well over 100K miles, & the used car market will be flooded with better cars. No one is going to know/care/want a little acura coupe made for only 3 years. It will
become the Acura version of a Prelude.
So who cares about resale?

fuzzy - You seem to be missing the point. I've seen plenty of CL-S' go for that price with a clean title. So yea, any CL in 3-5 years won't be worth much, but it's really going to suck when this one is worth less than a clean one at that time even though you paid damn near the same as a clean one in the first place.

I've always had a problem with rebuilt/salvage/theft recovery titles. It's not worth it.

Here's a graphite one 157 miles outside of Appleton, WI. 82k miles asking $10,900 for it.

These cars are out there, you just have to do alittle more searching than your drive home from work.

I agree, don't settle. You may have to look around a bit and be more patient and even though it's frustrating in the end it's worth it. It's a lot better than driving a car you don't 100% love. Biggest mistakes I've made are making car payments on a car I'm not crazy about.

Luckily the CL was not one of these cars.

I almost settled on an SSM modded CL with almost 100k miles on it. I'm really happy I waited and a week later i found my unmodded 56k mile NBP in NY.
