Going to a road course tommorow

Well since my local Discount Tire is filled with a couple retards (they sold my tires that I special ordered & put a deposit down on ) I cant take my mustang to Gingerman Raceway tommorow. So, since my fee is already paid for I figured what better way to finish off these POS tires than a nice healthy dose of legal 50-90mph turns.

Any tips from people that have done auto-x/track days? I figure trail braking and smooth steering inputs to help with the constant understeer I'm sure I'll have.

Mine is bone stock suspension wise, only with an icebox added on.

Vids/pics soon to follow later this weekend.

Just brake early. The CL is too heavy for the stock brakes.

I never raced it on stock suspension so I don't know how it will handle, but I was pleasently suprised how well my car handled the auto cross on just comtech springs and 18 inch wheels with decent tires.

There is actually a vid of me autocrossing on the RonJon website

The brakes are the only thing I'm concerned about. They have been resurfaced, and I assume they replace the pads when they do a rotor resurface, right? I've been to this course 3 or 4 times with my mustang so I know it pretty well. I'm just going to see how it handles it, not gonna do anything stupid or try to push it TOO much.

BTW how do you think it would handle with dr'sd up front & stokcers out back? I'll bet I wouldnt have to worry about understeer.

The soft sidewall on the DRs is gonna kill in the corners.

I know, plus it would really upset the handling I presume. Traction in front + no traction in back = oversteer, which would not be a good thing.

These BFG's actually are almost as stiff as the stockers once you get them to max psi. Not as stiff as Nitto's, but not as flexy as you might think.

I've done it before and it was the most fun I've had in a long time. Just take it easy till you get a feel for the course. Also at the end of each session DO NOT set the parking brake it will mess up the rotors.

I know, like I said I've been to this course 4 or 5 times.

And last time I went my rotors were glowing, so yeah setting the parking brake isnt a great idea.

After a few laps your rotors will be toast. Plan on new ones.

You're probably at the track right now, Joe. I hope you are having a good time! :thumbups: Sorry I couldn't make it; I just don't have the cash for another track day right now. But I'm going to sign up for the Speed Trials in October at Gingerman; Kris (fsttyms1) is going to try to make it, as well. You should come.

Let me know if you can make it to the meet this weekend!

At the hotel right now in St. Joseph

My rotors arent bad, but my pads are TOAST. After my final session (where I was beating on it pretty hard) the fronts were smoking like crazy.

I thought the car handled very well for being stock. I was not passed the entire day, and I stayed even with a couple SHO's with R-compound tires, and even passed a couple on the straights.

Surprisingly the tires gripped pretty well, but I had to be ultra smooth with steering inputs or else they started to slip. I'll have soomee vids & pics up later this weekend.

Max pressure at all 4 corners, 45psi. I Had to let it out after every session too, since they would spike up to ~ 55psi. :o
