Getting rid of my CL-S, getting 02 Maxima

Selling my:

-Comptech Headers
-Xephyr CAI
-Stock Rims

If anyone's interested in any of the above, contact me through email please.

After my CL-S got rear-ended, I decided I needed a new car. Hmm, pay $43K cdn for an 03 CL-S, or $37K for the 02 Maxima. Economics speaks volumes so I opted for the Maxima, i'll let you guys know (unbiased , since a lot of our over-zealous members here have trouble admitting the CL-S isn't the fastest thing on the road) how the Maxima fares

crippen@videotron.ca for any of the above parts.

Thanks

2 major things that I do not like about nissan,

36kmiles only for warranty.
No loaner.
No Road assitance.

Nissan is at the level of Honda... You should consider Infinity G35.

The one time I needed road-side assistance, Acura was of no help. My car had electrical problems and just wouldn't start, all the power kept shutting off. I was parked in a dark area and couldn't see crap all. The road-side needed the VIN on my dash, which i couldn't read in the dark. Needless to say I got no help that night.

My service manager at my dealer is a prick and the next closest dealership is off in boonie-land. When I want a loaner cause of car repairs, I'm lucky if I get a 1.6EL after reserving at LEAST 1 month in advance.

This vaunted Acura service is worthless to me, I'll take my chance with Nissan.

As for all the supposed build quality/cheap interior issues, don't even get me started on our almighty CL-S .. People like to delude themselves and believe that what they have is the best. I never let myself believe the CL-S was a great car. It was fine for the money, but it had more than it's fair share of troubles, rattlings, and that friggin "faux marble" is about as tacky as it gets.

Good luck to everyone getting the 03 6-speed, I'm really interested in hearing what it can do

I've got to admit that Nissan has done one hell of a job with the new Altima and Maxima. Anyways, enjoy your new Maxima and don't forget to post your first impressions once you've got the car.

Nah, not at all. I checked it out to see what it said about the car but I haven't signed up. I couldn't care less about all the posturing that goes on between that board and this board, about who's car is faster and what not. Enjoy your cars, in the end you paid for it and you have to drive it. What matters it what the next guy owns? Not to mention, the level if misinformation and blatant stupidity posted by members trying to prove their "kill stories" is pathetic.

I'm getting the 6-speed, after the CL-S (my only auto) I decided no more auto for me .. I may try CVT when that becomes more widespread and affordable

Thanks for th well-wishes, I'll be eager to post the comparisions between the two and see which excels more in what areas I actually was very close to buying the 2002 S4 .. but I couldn't justify paying close to one paycheck every month as a car payment

Indeed, most prolly 2004. I don't see how that factors into my decision though .. if I like what I see already, should I wait til 2004 and see if I like it more or perhaps DON'T like it .. ? j/w

Anyhow, the reason I am changing is because of the accident, so I DO need a new car asap .. I can't wait until 2004

Infamuz,

You are dreaming....
the next S4 is either a 3.0 V6 Biturbo or Small V8 with at least 340 HP, It's a quattro would spec to be a bit faster than E46 M3... that is 13.5s range ...:P

If it would be a bi-turbo... Imagine a $500 aftaermarket chip could at least add some 60 HP and it would be pushing 400HP....

speaking of S4s, I test-drove the 2002 model and almost had an 'accident' in my pants :p (J/K!) .. the car is gorgeous .. the dash, controls, the seats .. everything is so refined. And that neck-snapping acceleration, the AWD putting that power down to the wheels, it was great. *sigh*

Yes, that was my initial intention. Then my brother brought the 02 MAxima to my attention and then couldn't justify paying $6K more for the 03 CL-S when the Maxima was basically offering the same thing.

The Max is a great car. The engine is regarded as one of the Top 10 best.

Good Luck. And don't be a stranger.

My thoughts exactly. I look at the 4-doors as a bonus, not a penalty - this is my daily driver afterall. If the TL-s was a six, and close in price, I'd consider, but it's not. I"m giving my gf my 2001 EX-V6 as soon as she unloads her Civic EX. Then it's a 2k2SE for me.

To all that say it competes with Honda, go Infinity, Acura rules, etc., Acura competes with whatever car to which I compare it. The 2k2 max does quite nicely, and if you go test one, I think you'll agree it's a helluva ride. It would flat dust any TL I've driven (I don't have a lot of seat time in any CL's or CL-S's). I worked for I Honda, I recommend Honda / Acura to all my family, but HMC just can't compete here. I'll always be a fan of the brand, and I'll be first in line to test drive one when my local Acura dealer gets one. Maybe someday I'll return to the brand. Please don't run me off the board!

cool, good luck with your purchase. With any luck, i'll have mine sometime next week, still ironing out some small details I don't see 4 doors as a penalty either, especially since I lug around a huge hockey-bag on weekends and getting that through the front door is always a challenging experience. If the TL-S had a 6-speed and was closer in price, i'd also consider it VERY closely. Good luck with your purchase, let me know how you like it

oh btw: I test-drive the maxima too, I agree that it's a helluva ride. The dealer let me push the card decently hard (it had 4km on it and the roads were still snowy/slippery) and the car felt great. It's a nice feeling to have some torque down-low finally.

Have you compared the Maxima to the Altima? The Altima is thousands less, pretty much out performs the Maxima. Although the Maxima's engine has been highly regarded for years, the Altima engine has even better reviews.

It's the same engine.
Altima (in canada) is $2K less than the Maxima.
Altima doesn't have a 6-speed and no helical LSD nor HIDs, amongst other small luxo ameniies.
Maxima (for what it's worth) is still built in Japan.
whether the Altima really outperforms the Max, we'll have to see. It's only 30lbs lighter than the Max.

I'll stick with the Max, at least I know what to expect since my brother has the 02 SE.

My transmission went out on friday, and I'm over it!

Dude, good luck with the max. Its tight!

I'd personally get the Altima. The one here comes with HID's!

I almost bought a 2001 Maxima SE until I test drove the CL-S and immediately changed my mind (I liked the interior slightly better and the power was much more noticeable.)

If the '02 Maxima with the more powerful engine had been available I most likely would have settled on a Maxima. It's a great car. The Altima is tacky inside compared to the Maxima, IMO, and the rear end of the Altima is ugly.

And the Maxima has a broader mod market than the CL-S so you can get plenty of mods on it if that's your thing. All-in-all a good choice... it's just a shame the '03 CL-S manual tranny is so much more money... moving your mods right over to a new car would be very cost-effective.

PS, I want your headers! Can't afford a new set.

btw, is it just me or have you not posted here in like seven months (prior to this thread)? Just wondering.

LOL, it's not just you, I hadn't posted here in quite a while but still lurked Too lazy to press 'Reply" , hehehehhe :P

How much is the 03 with manual tranny? I tried inquring about the price as it was one of my choices, and the dealers are being quite secretive about it all.

I still don't know whether or not to lease or but the Maxima, don't know if it's a keeper yet.

Email me your best offer for the headers if you want em, i have a few offers already I'm waiting for my car to be done being fixed and then I will have the dealer take them off and put back my stock manifold .. i can then visual inspect them and see what condtion they are in. I'll then inform all those interested as to their status/condition and see who's still up for it.

Take care

Very interesting - I was wrestling my hockey bag into my back seat last night, thinking to myself, this would really suck with a 2-door!

When I tested the 2k2SE, the sales weenie went with me - he'd been on the job less than a week, and has never sold cars before. As I was puting the car through its paces, talking to the guy w/o out looking at him, I realized he was being very quiet all of the sudden. As I finished negotiating an s-curve at about 75% max speed for the curve, just barely engaging the LSD, I look over to see his white knuckles firmly attached to the o-shit handles, and a look of the fear of god on his face That's what ya get for going with me when I object!

The deals on the Max right now make it very hard to pass up. By the time you equip an Altima to be comparable to a Max, all of the sudden it isn't so cheap. In fact, the Max is a better deal, to me, all things considered.
Reasons to buy the Max:
1. The 5-spd in the Altima doesn't put power to the ground as efficiently as the 6-spd Max.
2. The Altima is BIGGER!
3. The Max (SE) has a much better/sportier suspension
4. The Max will have wider mod availability, at least to start. Who knows 2-4 yrs from now.

I've seen the article in SSC about the Altima out-performing the Max, but no one is believing it. Enough people on maxima.org have posted numbers that would indicate to the contrary.

Good luck with the new wheels, sorry to see you go. I have been a fan of the Max's engine since 1997. I almost bought one then but the mini van was more practical (I have two kids). I travel (for work) about 12 -15 time a year and always try to rent a Maxima. Best car out there for the traveler. I think the engine is one of the best around. I bought my cl-s because I keep my cars for 200k miles and can usually get that out of Honda (Acura) products.
