Generic eBay CAI or Name brand??

Fellow Aziners,

I want to get a CAI for my '01 and did a lil searching but i see a lot of mixed reviews. Some say go P2R/CT Icebox FTW and some say a generic CAI would do just fine(with k&n filter).

How many of you guys are running those eBay CAI's and how do they perform? Or should I just pony up the extra dough and go ahead with a P2R or an Icebox?

I also plan on getting headers in the very near future.

Your gonna need a K&N 3" cone filter for that too though.

Whatever works but some air filters that come with the ebay intakes are cheap as sh*t and have glue and crap on the insides of the filters that can get sucked up and screw up your engine. Personaly, I use the one that came with my ebay intake and it looks great. Just depends. I have seen and heard horror storys on some crappy air filters..

pls correct me if i'm mistaken, but isn't the so-called "name brand" intakes (aem, injen, fujita, etc) have the carb certification & that is why they cost more than the "run of the mill" (ebay,self-made, etc) ones, and also are less likely to get a "fix-it ticket" from the folks-in-blue?

Yea, but the last fix it ticket did not cost me anything. A name brand CAI cost almost $300. Besides when was the last time a cop asked to see under the hood? Maybe if your racing, but then a fix-it tickect is the least of your worries. Or if you have a stupid loud exhaust, they might ask.

But you do have a valid point.

I have an Ebay intake and love it. Just like an AEM without the sticker. It's similar to this one...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...3A1|240%3A1318

I guess if you could find a good deal on a name brand one, then it's all good. I don't have a very loud exhaust (tanabe cat-back) w/ deleted intake resonator & exhaust resonator...still no hassles *knock on wood* will most likely be installing cai soon, but not sure which brand yet..

in the same predicament as you.

I've seen a couple of intakes that have developed holes in the side of them though, anyone know how common this problem is?
