Gathering information to install headers, OBX SS on the way!

This is my assistant, William. His specialty is being able to get into small places.

William says it will be pretty hard to reach the back headers from the top. There's not much room to work with.

From this angle, you can see that the front headers are just a little bit easier to get access to. But still pretty tight. It's just too close to the radiator.

William collecting his thoughts on boost in torque output to the front wheels and impact it will have on oversteer.

He gives the green light.

yep, that black macaroni thing on the pavement is the intake resonator. William decided to rip it out with his jaw to increase air flow.

ferget the headers!!!!

if William can get into small spaces, give him a dremel and tell him to do a port and polish for ya

just stick him in the manifold air induction tube

You should be able to remove 3 nuts from top and 2 from below... it would be pain in the ass without some pwered tools... but doable.. the back are pain in your thing and the front a piece of cake.. to make it easy try to port match the primaries first...

Good luck and be happy you have an assitant...

yea, he'll have to enter thru the air induction tube and when he's done , come out thru the exhaust. It's been done before. Hence the name, cat back exhuast.

I called Car Boys today, they said they will install my OBX headers for $200.

I also inquired about thermal wrap. which they said I will need 2 of them at $65 each to wrap both headers. Labor to wrap my headers in thermal wrap will be $40. Stainless steel headers conduct heat which is transferred to the engine bay. Ceramic and stock headers do not conduct heat as well as stainless steel. So therefore it is unecessary to get them wrapped.

The thermal wrap basically holds the heat in the headers so that it does not heat up the air/ temperature within the engine bay. Rather, it will keep the heat trapped withing the headers so that it will transfer thru the exhaust. I'm hoping this will also eliminate the resonance issue with OBX as well.

Good luck with the install. If you wrap them I am curious to find out if you get the same d@mn resonance sound that i get.

If William is as good a helper as my cat, you will have the install done in no time!

i highly assume that wrapping the headers will dampen the resonance if not eliminate it all together. Because all it is, is noise. Noise is energy just like heat, and the source is from the headers. I'm pretty confident that warpping the stainless steel headers will asborb or reflect much of the energy. I will let ya'll know how it goes.

I personally don't think that wrapping it with heat absorbing/reflective material will dampen the resonance. The noise is comming from with in the headers, not from the outside. The resoance seem to be caused by the different hole size of the header...the obx diameter size is smaller than the flange, so you get the resonace, CT has the hole size and flange size the same.

I still haven't gotten around to installing my wrapped OBX headers... So I can't say whether it affects the resonance.

Check with randomwalk101, he has the same setup, but installed, of course.

Edit: BTW, cute cat.
