I tried searching but no luck, i believe our car gas tank holds 17 gallons but everytime i pump gas it fill up to about 14. when the gas light shows up i still drive it till the needle is even with the red line but i still pump about 14 gallons. is this normal?

 

Yep, when the light comes on you've still got about 3 gallons "in reserve"...

I've think I've put in 15 gallons once in 49K miles of driving my CLS....

I usually put in 12-14... I've only seen the low fuel light come on about 1/2 dozen times total.

So, I'd say it's normal...

 

The owners manual says 17.1 as far as I remember and like GreenMonster said when the light comes on you have atleast 3 gallons. For some reason when my light comes on it seems to have a little more than 4 gallons left.

 

I have ran my cls out of gas twice. i never seem to fill up until the gas light comes on. idiot. i even reset my od when the light comes on so i know how far i can go untill i really need gas. not more than 30-35 miles in the city and 50-75 on the highway.

 

Gas light comes on I get gas. That's what the light is for. I've put around 15 in my car. Never more then that.

 

Only once have I put over 15 in at fill up.

 

Same here. I usually try to fill up when I'm between 1/8 and 1/4. I try to avoid the light when I can.
