gas mileage

hey i was wondering if getting 280 miles for the tank is normal, cuz i really don't take off or drive in a lot of stop and go traffic, so i figured i'd get more mileage, anyways if you got any suggestions or comments i'd appreciate it!

I usually get about the same. I don't let the tank run down, so I usually only get about 240-260 before I fill up. I don't like the tank to get below 1/8 of a tank or so. I drive above the posted speed limit on the highway, and hit stop and go traffic on the highway in my daily commute.

If you search the forum here, you'll find multiple threads about what people are getting for gas mileage. Anything from 280 miles to 500 miles have been mentioned in these threads.

I drive into Cambridge, MA every work day so I am about 60% highway/40% local roads. i do drive a bit fast (80mph on the highway unless Bulldog01 is around, then it is about 120mph ) and I do launch off the line almost any chance I can get. I rarely get less than 300miles per tank. Usually I get 320 miles per tank by the time the gas light comes on. If it is all highway on a long trip I have been close to 36mpg. If I was only getting 280miles per tank I'd be ticked. I think that the headers and intake help a little bit in the gas mileage as long as you stick close to the speed limit.

Around 260 for me. I drive fast over 80+ when I can, & I sometimes get stuck in traffic. In FL there's no such thing as HW or city driving. The HW can be jammed all day every day at 5mph & sometimes it's 80+. Same with the local roads, it's a coin toss.

I get anywhere from 335 to 380 miles per tank. I once got 450 miles on one tank when I was driving from S.J. to L.A.

I always get above 320 MPG.

I'm mostly stock, 18" rims with 40 series tires, mobil !, and K&N filter. I drive 50% highway (congested in L.A.)

Oh yeah, and I VTEC at all freeway onramps

Well, today I just filled up. I got 20.99 mpg on this tank. It was about 300.6 with the light on. Then again, my car is new.

i get between 240-280 b4 the light comes on...so that means i have another like...50-60 miles left right?? So that would equal 290-330. However I fill up right around when the light comes on. I'm in LA and I would say I drive 60% city / 40% highway. By the way, since gas is gettin on the expensive side and I'm a poor college student (lol), is it ok if for the time being I fill up with 89 octance rather than 91?? I've only used 91 so far but figured I can go to 89. Secondly, where do you guys fill up at usually? I find that Shell gets me the best mpg and its pretty well priced

I've been getting 220 miles when the light comes on lately (what's that? 14 mpg?)...but that's with really short trips, like 5 minutes between home and work, A/C always on and I have a pretty heavy foot.

High speeds then stops, then high speeds again really eat gas on this car I noticed. If I drive all HW like a road trip at a constant 80mph I get about 420-440 miles on a tank.

Just filled up. 280 miles on 13 gallons. That's 20-21 mpg, which ain't bad for a lead foot in the winter

Ouch.

I keep a small note book in the console and I record the gallons, mileage, place, date, and price. It's a little anal, but it's something I was doing with my bus 'cause the gas guage don't work.

I like the fact that I can keep a historical record of the mileage, so if I see a sudden drop, I know somethings wrong with the car.

How are you guys determining how many miles between fill ups?

I usually wait until I go about 30-50 miles past the time the reserve light comes on. I estimated that I can get a least 110 miles on reserve.

reset the trip meter when you fill up then read off how many miles you've driven the next time you fill up. Then you can divide the number of miles you've driven by the number of gallons you've filled to get your average mpg.

And up here in the NE, in the winter, it's a pretty dumb idea to not fill up when the light comes on...IMO, anyway.

Back when I first got my CL-S I got 26-27 mpg for the first 5 or 6 tanks. Since then I dont feel bad driving it with some "hurry" and the mpg has dropped down to about 23-24 mpg on average. I do about 75% highway driving, but no real rush hour traffic in the city. I also cruise on the highway at minimum 80mph, sometimes a little more.

First off, I didn't ask how to calculate MPG... but thanks anyway for telling me the obvious.

Secondly, I agree, it's a good idea to gas up as soon as possible when the reserve light comes one. But when you are 30 to 40 miles a way from a gas station when the light comes on, you got no choice but to wait until you reach the next available station.

clearly it wasn't so obvious for you since you couldn't figure out how many miles people were getting between fill ups.

I wasn't trying to get into a pissing contest with you. I forgot the put the smiley on the post to signal that.

I was simply asking how folks were measuring how many miles per tank they were getting, not miles per gallon. If one person reads the mileage as soon as the reserve light goes on and another person reads the mileage when they fill up at the pump, we are comparing apples to oranges.

Yep, I never let my car get below 1/8 of a tank, so I think I've seen the reserve light go on twice in 18K miles. I think I drove maybe 5 miles after the light went on. That's why I posted " 280 miles on 13 gallons".

Gotta compare apples to apples.

Anyhoo,
I've always measured mine and my stock CL-P used to get about 28-29 mpg (about 400-420 per tank) in mixed driving but mostly high-speed then lights, 60 miles a day.

Then I got new 17" wheels and conti extremes and the mileage went down to 25-26 (350-370 per tank).

If I only got 20-22, I'd have sold it already!

About 300 miles before filling up, and usually that's about one tick mark before the last one. I'm lead footed but about 80% of the time in my car is highway.
I've got 1/2 a tank right now with 160 in the trip odo which I reset on fillups.

310-320 between fillups; usually put in about 13 gals, so I'm getting about 24mpg. 60/40 highway/city split. just did a trip down to DC; made sure that I had the tires up to 34psi and had just used Techron FI concentrate. 30+mpg

Just did my first real fill up. Got 280 miles (18.6 MPG). Not bad for city driving on winter gas.
