gas mileage on a 2003 Acura CL-S

Hey guys, i just got my '03 CL-S, and I was wondering about how many miles do yall get on a full tank on your CL-S's? What's the general # of miles someone should be begging on a full tank (real-life stats, not the mpg-based stats)?

Thanks in advance

Using Octane 94 and filling it up to around 54L i got just just over 540 kilometers. I drove it for a bit when the light came on, so, lets play safe and say over 500 before the fuel light came on. This is with me driving about 100km a day with majority of it being highway traffic.

I get 21-23mpg... so I get around 280 miles before I fill up with about 12-14 gallons... We have a 17 gallon tank btw, but I've never put in more then 14 something gallons before.

Asking how much per tankful is kinda idiotic, as I don't wait for the low fuel light to come on, where some people will drive 60 miles after the light comes on...

Some members have claimed over 500 miles per tank

When I do mostly city driving, I'm lucky if I get around 17 mpg, so about 240 miles for ~14 gallons worth of gas. Now that I've been doing a lot more highway driving, I'm getting 23-24 mpg (320-340 miles per tank). I usually fill up right before or as soon as the gas light comes on.

I don't think I've ever seen a tank go past 320 for me. Maybe the spacers and cooling mods should help out. Or maybe I should take the lead out of my right shoe.

I've had my CL-S for just over 2 months now and I seem to be getting much better mileage than anything I've seen posted. I always get 400 miles or slightly more before having to fill up. Yes, I wait for the fuel light to come on but fill up soon after. I'm getting 27-28MPG. The majority of my miles are highway, but still a lot of stop and go rush hour traffic to deal with.

Ditto This has also been my experiance with both the CLS's that I have owned. I have gotten as high as 31.3mpg on the highway. I have only done 31.3mpg twice. 27-28 is very common for me combined city and highway.

I average between 24-26mpg and I usually will run it up to about 300 miles/tank. I've gotten as good as 433 miles @ 33.XXmpg once on a road trip.

Man, what type of CL-S's are you guys driving. I just filled up yesterday I got 21.9mpg, up from an average of 21mpg for my previous 2 fill ups. I think its becuase of the K&N replacement air filter i put in right before I filled up the last tank. Not to mention that the OEM filter was dirty as heck. I just brought the car 2 weeks ago. Seems like the previous owner never replaced it. I know for sure he didnt replaced the ac cabin filters. I did those last week.

Man I would die to get 27-28mpg. For those of you gettin that, what type of mods have you put on the car. Do you think those mods are givin you that high mileage? Some of you said that you even get 24-28mpg with alot of city driving. I find that incredible.

Also (a little off topic), I plan on getting a CAI, I'm debating between CT ice box or AEM CAI. From reading old threads, its pretty settled that the ice box gives better performance but I'm looking more for sound. Alot of peeps are saying that with the ice box, you wont get any change in sound than the OEM. So I'm leaning towards the AEM CAI. What scares me about the AEM is threads talking about fitment issues, hydro cut off, and lack of durability. Lastly, back to topic, have you guys noticed any gains in mpg because of it assuming you are driving like before and not WOT just to hear the intake or feel the gains.

I get around 260 on a full tank from light on point. I don't know what my MPG is but I drive agressive all the time. Straight HW at 80 with AC I get about 360.

That's closer to mine, too. Highway best was 410 mlies on close to a full tank a little over 31.5 mpg. Mixed city/highway runs between 20-23 mpg.

yeah, thats about how much i seemed to get, it just felt so 'little', but i guess city driving really does kill a lot of mpg

I also have to mention that I don't drive all that conservatively. It's not like I floor it everywhere, but I definitely don't go out of my way to drive at exactly the speed limit. Usually at around 70-80, traffic allowing, on the highway, 90 if there aren't many/any cars (i.e. 280N from San Jose to SF). I'd probably see an improvement in my mpg if I drove like an old lady.

I recently started commuting 24 to 680 everyday and have been driving like a granny to save gas. I was getting about 260ish a tank from my regular driving driving habits. Driving like granny has boosted that up to about 340 miles a tank. Damn gas prices sure put a damper on the fun driving.

I have no mods at all. I average around 70mph on the highway. I don't think the speed you drive has too much to do with it, it's how fast you get up to that speed. I don't drive very aggressive, but I'll get into it when passing and merging, and I usually have the A/C on too but still get around 27/28mpg. I imagine if I was city driving most of the time and flooring it most of the time the mileage would drop quite a bit...

I get around 260 a tank (70% city 30% highway)
I get around 300 a tank if i use SS and keep the RPM under 2.5k
This actually works because you can force it to shift early and let it just roll down a block or a hill for example.

It's been asked here before I'm sure, but I can't find it with the search. What kinda gas mileage are those with headers and exhaust work netting?

I pushed the envelope and got 500 miles on one tank with about a 1/2 gallon left. Interstate driving at 75mph between Memphis and Atlanta.

Gas miles general increases (a little) w/ headers and intake... Freeing up the flow on either end should do this, unless you get into vtec all the time due to the sound/greater hp...

There's not much benefit from exhaust on the CL (2-3hp), so after you do the headers, the rest is just for sound/looks

I see, thanks for that information. I'm still amazed that headers give the CL as much gains in hp/torque as they do! I have to venture to say that out of ALL the cars I've ever owned/modded that none of them have every acheived as much hp/tq gains from a single simple bolt-on. Another reason I love this car! Headers are a must IMO.

I get about 17 mpg daily driving because a lot of it is ciit driving. When my car had all the mods, I would get about 31 mpg on the highway. Usually from full tank to light, I'd get about 240-250 miles in the city and about 440-450 on the highway.

20 MPG usually

I usually get about 20 MPG in the city, even with the occassional squeel 'n peel. Highway for me varies, but usually high 20's to low 30's.

alright so im under the impression that something might be wrong with my CL. since my last filup, i've driven only 170 miles and i only have about a little less than 1/3 of the tank left. Does this seem normal? I've actually been trying to drive slow and not accelerate fast yet still im gettin what seems to be pretty crappy...any reccomendations?

Maybe an inaccurate float? My gauge has always moved down fast from full to 2/3 full. After that it seems to move at a more normal rate.

You say you're at 1/3 tank after 170 miles? Try filling the tank. It should take about 11.5 gallons. If that amount actually tops off the tank, then I'd say yes, 15 mpg is pretty crappy. Might try cleaning the throttle body and fuel injectors.

In summer time I get 27.5 mpg and 425-440 miles. The gas is a little different here (CA) in winter and mileage is reduced a bit: 25.5 and 400. I keep driving about 40-50 miles after the gas light comes on. I usually drive easy and slowly get up to 80. Seldom use air cond.
