I just bought an '02 CL-S w/ 34K miles. I am only getting around 200 miles of city driving to the tank and am wondering if this is normal??? It's said that CL's get around 18 mpg in city driving and I'm definately not! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

when i drove , which is mostly highway miles (i'd say prob 85% hwy), i range anywhere from about 320-350 by the quarter tank mark. And i usually fill up my tank til its full with 91 octane.
you should be getting more than 200, that is bad. maybe u have some dirty air filters or some clogged up fuel injectors

yeah i knew something had to be wrong! It was a lease return so I figured that the people who leased it before me were probably really cheap or lazy and didnt bother to change anything out bc they knew they were going to return it! thanks for your help!

I've filled it up once with 89 octane but after I got the shitty mileage I put 91 in there and same thing happened! Also...any suggestions on how to go about having it checked out? I'm thinking that taking to the dealership is my best bet bc they probably know alot more about the car.

Yea,
Glad that you mentioned that. I have a 2003 Acura CL-S with 35,000 miles and I have notice that it is drinking more gas too. I use 89 ocatane. The acura website suggested this: Recommended Fuel - premium unleaded; 91 octane*
EPA estimated mileage, city/highway:**
CL Type S - 19/29
CL Type S M/T - 19/28
*Gasoline with a octane number lower than 91 may be used, with reduced performance.
I wondered what is considered reduced performance? I'm not a hard driver. neither do I race with the car. anybody got any suggestions?

is there a way for them to diagnose your car before anything is done bc i dont want to spend a shitload of money to get everything cleaned and fixed if theres still another problem?

I'm thinking about trying some fuel injection cleaner. I am going to go to acura and see if they have any first. If not I will find some good injection cleaner out there first before I get the fuel injection cleaner. I really don't want to spend the money on it if I really don't need.

I had the full service from Acura on my engine, carbon cleaning of the injectors, added an AEM CAI etc... and I still get only low 200 MPT before and after. I live in Honolulu and city driving is a killer in this car. Since I'm in Hawaii long freeway rides are non-existent so I just had to get used to my MPT. I run chevron 91 premium. 01 CLS

I had the same problem about 6 months ago. I changed the filter and cleaned out the injectors. That solved the problem. Increased the city miles per tank about 50 miles in the city. You can also check your spark plugs, although at 34K you shouldn't have to worry about changing them yet.
