$1.80s here in KC. Not quite ready to give up yet. When it hits $2, I'm going telecommute instead of driving 23 miles one way to work.

On my weekend drive I noticed prices ranging around Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara as follows:

Low around $1.99 to a high of $2.31!!!!!

BTW -- I notice the price of the 100 octane stays at its way too high price of $4.25, while the other prices go up and down. (Can you say incredibly high mark-up?)

What do you expect? We now have two (2) "OIL MOGULS" in the White House running the country. You haven't seen anything yet. They have to pay back all their friends in the Oil Industry for donating millions of dollars to get them elected. Look at oil profits.

This is the "GOLDEN RULE" in action. "HE WHO HAS THE MOST GOLD, MAKES ALL THE RULES".

They are going to try to BS us enough to where we think $2.00/gal. gas is a good deal. Watch and see what happens this summer. Break out the "Vaseline" now. It's going to be a Hell of a ride!!!

Hey, it could be worse. You could live in Europe where you would ordinarily pay $4-$5 for a gallon of regular.

The US has an energy problem (not crisis!) that it needs to solve and it needs long term solutions. Freeing up a couple hundred thousand barrels of crude from the reserve won't do it. (They tried that last year, remember?) Currently, the US imports over 9.9 millions barrels of oil every day at a cost of $132,000,000 per day. That's over 54% coming from abroad. They system is broken, and it needs fixing.

Yeah, blame Clinton. In the very near future tis administration is going to have to take the blame for their decisions. Talk to the people in Alaska and see how they feel about drilling there.

Even if you find oil in Alaska, it will be at least ten (10) years before the well starts producing.

To my knowledge, no President can do anything with out the approval of Congress. Yeah, blame Clinton. That's the easy way out.

Buy the way, no matter where the crude oil comes from, most of it is refined in the USA. Look at the profits of our oil companies. Have they made any new discoveries lately? Don't hear them talking about foreign oil.

Did Clinton even try to do anything about anything? Nope... If he tried to drill in Alaska and Congress shot him down, then it wouldn't be his fault. But he did nothing. He threw bombs all over the place just to cover his jizz stains on the oval Office carpet and Monica's dress. So don't give me this easy way out crap.

Prices will come down soon. $2.06 for 93 octane in Indy. Heavy supply coming from refineries that are working at max capacity. The "shortage" is a farse. It is simply a case of OPEC fleecing us.

Listen, neither person (Clinton or Bush)running the White House has had jack to do with gas prices. At least hate the guys for REAL reasons. The futures market, OPEC, and to a lesser degree the oil companies have the control over prices.

This is free market capitalism at its best(!).

The oil companies are offering gas at a price and we are still paying it. When demand drops, so will prices. You can't blame them for keeping supply low. Come on, if anyone here was running a major oil company, you wouldn't increase supply, p*ss of your stock holders, and get fired. It doesn't work that way.

If its too steep a price, then sell the CL for an Insight. I hear they get excellent gas milage. :-)

Of course thats easy for me to say. I paying 1.57 for gas (its a 1.67 for prem.) for my 240sx and am not buying my CL until i can see if the 02 have a stick.

I'm not flaming, but I hope you are not serious. There are reasons Clinton didn't want to drill in Alaska, very good reasons. If Bush has anything near a smart cell in that head of his he won't touch Alaska either. The mentality behind your statment seems totally wrong to me, just because we can't handle the idea of being smart with what resources we have and maybe changing the methods in which we consum them does not mean we should run out and pillage what we have left of OUR forests and wild-land. What happens when our demand rises above what we can suck out of Alaska? Then where's Bush going to drill?

The best solution is not always "more", this time maybe it's "better".

I keep hearing about a shortage. Where? I have yet to pull into a gas station and find they are out of gas. The oil companies decided they wanted to boost their profits and they have. Alaska is a smoke screen, there isn't enough oil there to make a very big dent. What happened to gas mileage requirements for manufactures (that include all vehicles)?

Was down in Tucson for the weekend and saw premium at $1.65/gal. That's better than the $1.79 I pay here in the Phoenix area.

Here in NJ Premium was about $1.40 or so only a month ago and now it's between $1.75 (on discount day) and $1.92 depending on station and location. Obviously not as bad as some other places but going up every couple of days...hope it ends soon!

You're missing the point... Clinton could have done something... anything. But he didn't. He did absolutly nothing in his eight years. Other than veto the death tax he just sat and ate McDonalds. At least Bush is getting something done. Name one thign Clinton did? Before you say he fixed the economy, look up Alan Greenspan and see what political party he's with. Seriously... do it.
As far as OPEC, maybe if we didn't throw bombs all over the place they would give us a break? Nope... First sign of trouble bomb a factory. No wonder they want to blow up our planes. I would to if they blew up my house and killed my family. Uh oh! Iraq looked at Israel cross-eyed... better bomb the hell out of them. Watch Foxnews a few times and keep up with current events. Our system of government won't work if you can't locate the country we're at war with.

While i do agree Bush has ties with gas companies you cant blame him for the prices. It is not like he controls OPEC. So untill we can find a way to stop using gas we will pay as much as they want us to. And i dont think drilling in Alaska will save anything. That is obviously a skeem for Bush to hook up sum of his cronies with new refineries. You dont think they still will fix gas prices?

Just to reiterate from a previous post, drilling in Alaska won't help the current situation anyway. It would take a good 10-15 years before one drop of crude was pumpled from ANWAR. Bush will be lounging in Kennebunkeport by then. The problem also is not with OPEC (at least not now). The problem is with local (US) companies simply trying to make a profit. If you recall, 3 years ago a barrel of crude sold for under $10 and gas at the pump was going for $0.95 a gallon. (Actually saw $0.88 here in NJ.) Now, there just stock piling cash for the next dip. We'll just have to wait it out. In the meantime, I'm going to dust off my bicycle.
