A funny thing happened at a dealership today

Saw an ad for a 2003 CL/S 6 speed so I went to the dealer and parked around the corner. The test drive was a lot of fun working that stick. After getting back to the lot, I said I needed to get something from my car. A minute later I backed right in beside where I backed in the '03.

So there they sat, side by side.

2002 CL/S auto, NGM/Parchment, 45,000 miles, second owner and a file with every bill and work order since new.

2003 CL/S 6peed, SSM/Black, 73,000 miles, and bills from the 3rd owner from 2008 on. List was $12,888.00. Canada, eh!

I said to the salesman I'd be interested in negotiating a deal and this is what he came back with. My car and $5000. I needed a good laugh.

Think I'll just keep mine for now and if and when the auto blows up I'll swap in a manual.

Wow, maybe you could've worked him a bit more.... however though your car is almost 9 years old

I had a new 03 CLS 6, bought new in 2002 and had it until 2009, loved that car

Not a bad money he offered you but that 6 speed was way overpriced. Looks elsewhere you may find something for like 8-9k easily.

I guess you and I are part of the few optimist left and feel there is still value in our cars. With the low miles you have, you should be able to demand more for a trade.

$7800 for your car is actually pretty good. I probably wouldve taken the deal.

Funny things always happen at dealerships. I asked about a ATF flush once and they said they refuse to tell me how they do it for legal and liability reasons, and that "All we can say is that all 12 quarts get flushed out"

I know someone who owns a Dodge truck, went to the dealer with throttle issues, and the mechanic told him "The ECU automatically configures itself depending on what type of driver you are. Lightfoots will get less horsepower, even if you floor it"

About a decade ago my parents went to a Nissan dealership, and they found out the sales team installed hidden mics in the office were they were left to talk over whether to buy or not. Mics were installed in the computer speakers.

Seems like a decent price to me, it was conservative but I probably would have taken it if it was me personally. But seems like he gave you a decent amount for your car and you just soak up the rest.

Decent but not bad.
