Fuel Injector Clean UP

I did a search about carbon buildup in the fuel injector and a guy quoted in another thread "go buy some Synpower fuel injector and air cleaner from pep boys or autozone and next time you have an empy tank, poor it in then fill up..."

Is this correct? Its that simple? Also, would this be the right product if he was right...? http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...sp?product=134

It'll also be easier if there was a dyi, lol, but couldnt find one by searching..

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Seamfoam is some really good stuff. I tend to not use that stuff that often because its Petroleum based.......... I use injector cleaner from BG. Same concept of using a vaccum line. They also make this stuff called 44k which is a gas additive that cleans as well. I really think that the 44k is some really good stuff. It might just be me but I noticed a little kick in power after.............

this may sound stupid, but does anyone feel kind of embarrassed when doing the seafoam treatment due to all the smoke coming out of the exhaust? i just saw the video for it, and that is ALOT more smoke than i thought was going to come out, alot more. how long does it typically smoke for? i am thinking of doing the seafoam treatment in a month or so (68,000 miles) but am thinking i will go to a parking lot far away from my house so i don't kill the neighborhood....too many kids running around

it should only smoke for a few minutes. Some times it wont even smoke at all. just depends on your car and how much seafoam your putting in the intake.

^ true, he is coming on 70k though. you will most likely get a decent amount of smoke. oh and if a CEL comes on after it will go away, may take a day or 2.

I love Seafoam. I use it on all my cars.

However, I've *heard* that you shouldn't add it to the crankcase as the bottle suggests. Seafoam is some strong shit, and it will clean everything. So if you have a bit of buildup in your engine on a seal, it will clean it away and may cause leaks/seepage. Just a heads-up. In a vacuum port or in the gas tank is perfectly fine though.

I just bought a bottle of seafoam at autzone for 8.99 + tax = $.62 for 16 oz bottle.
I am going to suxk like 7oz in the vac line and 9oz in the gas tank (I am not putting any in the crankcase only oil goes there and im not about to change the oil). SO from what i read i goes like this ..My gas light just came on so im gonna drive 15 min tommorrow to warm the engine up and then (while car is running and idleling dissconnect vac hose and SLOWLY por 7 oz into the vac line. After the 7 oz is poured into the vac line then shut the car off and pour 9 oz into gas tank which is going to be like 2.5 gallons (light turns on when there is 3 gal). Wait 15-20 min then start car up and rev for 5 min then go on a Spireted drive working all the gears and pretty much taking every gear up to 6800 rpms then after 15-20 min of spireted driving fill her up and i am done.

How does that sound IF anything i am about to do tommorrow is wrong let me know!
BTW my car has 165k miles and 3 trannies replaced this tranny has 65k miles on it.
If anything I wrote above is not up to par please corrrect it for me and all the people that would love to seafoam there CL.

Thanks a bunch now all a need is to find a taillight!

From reading the seafoam threads and Tom's (01tl4tl) posts (he's the seafoam guru), engage in VTEC (4800 rpm) so the seafoam gets into those lobes and dont exceed 5500ish. That reason is because if chucks of carbon is coming off the intake, you dont want them hitting your valves and/or cylinders at redline speeds. Its best to stay below VTEC most of the time and only engage it a few times throughout the procedure.

There is also no reason to shift thru all the gears as seafoam treats the engine only and has nothing to do with the transmission.
if your doing it on only 2.5 gals of gas, watch your mileage. running at those higher rpms for an extended period of time will suck up gas like crazy.

and finally if your CEL comes on, dont worry. it will go away in a couple of days.

I just did the seafoam tonight, all per directions - the can's and through a lot of thread observation. All went well, got a pretty good amount of smoke in the beginning, did my 20-60 10-40 type of driving, but all & all....I can honestly say, the difference I'm sure is there, but I didn't feel it much. As soon as I am done with my gas tank (in which there's the other part of the seafoam) I'll open up the intake manifold to clean off my egr valve if it's still dirty & update you guys on how well of a job it has done.

i plan to open up my intake manifold at my 105k too but i doing seafoam after not before.

the difference between post-seafoam and pre-seafoam shouldnt be that much. maybe just enough for it to be noticable.

I've heard that throttle response is better. MPGs would probably be better too and im sure your engine would last longer without all that carbon junk in there.

I read the link you gave me and it doesnt say why not to use it with over 150k. I have not heard seafoam doing an damage to our cars or anyone else's. Dont be afraid, lots of members have used it and were skeptical/scared before. Heck i was until i saw it done in person. its really easy and yields good results. I will be doing mine this summer. Its like saying using dino oil after syn will cause leaky seals. It might or might not happen, so im not going to add any to the crankcase but i dont see any reason for not adding to the intake.

Usage:
Follow these simple directions.
Prep:

1. First, Make sure to use the whole can.
2. You will be using this on two sides of the intake manifold.
3. It might be easier to work with the cleaner if you pour it into a small cup.4. Perform this on a warm engine.5. When revving the car make sure your in a well ventilated open area.
6. Do not use on motors with over 150k on them.

I've HEARD that if your engine has a lot of miles on it and you seafoam through the throttle body, there's a chance that you might lose compression.....

I guess I read this too late I just seafoamed sunday with 165k miles...
I got some smoke but nearly as much as in all the vids.
I put a little less the 1/2 in vac line and rest in gas tank with 3 gallons of gas like I stated earlier..
I have not noticed any diff in the performance or trottle responce and no my CEL light did not come on!
Hopefully i did not mess compression ratio up, how would i be able to tell?
I put about 150 miles on it (after i drove about 15 miles with the 3 gallons and 1./2 can of seafoam in tank I filled up with shell 93) then put 150 miles on the car wite no lighyts commong on and no noticable difference..??

You think im OK?

Thanks guys!

If you can't feel a difference, then you're probably ok. In any case you might want to run a compression test just to see where your at

I thought it would work wonders and my car would couse a smoke screen , having soo many miles but nothing, no noticable inprovement. Most my driving is highway at 80% of my driving and always about 75mph so i guess i didnt let carbon build up!

You know, now about 100 miles after seafoaming....I can tell some differences.
For one, she definitely starts faster & easier
2. I do notice a slightly better throttle response, & overall I think it did help some.....exactly how much, that's to be determined. I'm going to be adding it to the oil today too.....so we'll see.

I did alot of research on seafoam and from what I read I would not put it in the oil..
I think more harm can result then good!
After putting in your vac line how long did u wait till u started her up again?
Did she smoke like a chimney or not really?

i use shell and chevron all the time. no noticable differences between the two for me.
V-power is called that because of its claim of 5 times the mandated minimum cleaning agents. it had nothing to do with how the gasoline burns or the octane rating.
