Frame Damage? Previous collision?

I was looking in the trunk of my buddy's 01 CL-S today, and discovered this:

Does this mean the vehicle has previously been involved in a rear-end collision (severe?) but was improperly repaired?

The car has a salvaged title, but we're unsure if the collision involved the rear-end.

Thanks.

It might have been properly repaired, but they didn't go to the trouble to cut out the trunk bottom since they figured you wouldn't look in the tire well... Structurally the car might be fine, but hopefully what you're seeing is merely cosmetic.

It's a salvage vehicle, so don't be surprised if you find tons of other little things wrong here and there...

While there are some vehicles where prior damage cannot be detected by even an expert, that's not the case with most vehicles with a salvage title...

Salvage vehicles = teh suck

if it has a salvage title then there was definitely frame damage, although at the dealership i work for if it has even a dent in the unibody then we consider it frame damage and wont sell the vehicle. from the pictures though 110% sure theres more damage than meets the eye.

my car got hammered in the back and the trunk damage wasnt even near that! I got hit by a car going about 50 into my rear while stopped at a stop light and it shot me into the car in front of me. you cant even tell the car was ever hit.
