Dearborn, Michigan, Jan. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co. will waive as many as eight months of lease payments for some customers who return cars and trucks early and buy or lease another Ford as the world's second-largest automaker seeks to increase sales.
Customers with leases ending between March and August on Taurus and Focus cars, Ranger pickup trucks and Windstar minivans are eligible, spokesman Jim Cain said. The incentive applies only to Ford models and not to Lincoln, Mercury or other affiliates.
The company is using the program to boost sales for January and February, he said. Analysts have projected that U.S. sales may decline in January after automakers boosted incentives in December. U.S. auto sales rose 14 percent last month, led by a 36 percent jump at General Motors Corp. and a 13 percent increase at Ford.
The returned cars and trucks will also have a higher value if they are brought back sooner, Cain said. Automakers resell vehicles returned from leases through auctions. To have payments waived, customers must buy or lease a 2002 or 2003 Ford-brand vehicle, he said. The program runs through Feb. 28.

I think it is just some accounting thing, where it will seem like they're in the black instead of the red...
I think if you make "good" quality cars that don't require 50 recalls, you may actually make some money in the auto business.
