Ford Lightning. HA

so anyways, u guys will probaly call me a fool for this. My budy has a 00' white lightning. so a couple of days ago im taking this girl out and were driving side by side. we enter the freeway at like 20, we both gun it at the same time, i was on the out side lane and pulled a FULL car at 90. i thought this was a fluke sense those do such fast 0-60 times. well last night we go off the line on a left turn signal side-by-side. well the same damn thing happens again, he lost when we hit 85. other than that we were dead even the whole time. whata u guyz think, he knows we were racing and admits that he lost both times. that means my car is fast? i really should take it to the track and get some verification.

By "side-by-side" you mean "four car lengths behind him" right?

Chill man, I'm just messin' with ya.

I believe you that it happened, but it's not supposed to. Either your friend is a shitty driver or you accidentally got an NSX engine in your CL-S.

Its funny how anybody can race something, and be accused of lying or other BS like that. I can see maybe some people have lied before, but I dont think you are lying. I dont even feel I should post any racing stories, because of fearing of getting the hammer.

My guess would be that there is something wrong with the Lightning or it is a few years older than a '00. As much as I would like to fool myself into thinking I could outrun one at will, I don't. I'm not contradicting anyone, the thing is that a CL-S even with headers and what not is not a match for a SVT Lightning.

lightnings have the aerodynamics of a semi. It's a truck, it's not gonna be quick above 90. same problem the syclone and typhoons had. Take him from a stop. see how it is then.

Nick, "Type S Smokes Weed"

Lay off that weed! It's doing something to your brain cells! J/K Yeah, it could be possible, because these trucks have low gears in their rear end. On the other hand, maybe your friend did not want to push it. Who knows??? Their are too many variables not considered when racing on the street and freeway. i.e. upcoming traffic, mis-shifts, (automatics)in a high gear when hitting full throttle waiting for it to down shift, etc.

Yes, but the Cyclones and Typhoons were boxes on wheels, the Lightning has more curvature (is that a word?).

I'm palnning on racing my friends Syclone at the track this weekend. It is very true with the Syclone and typoon that they were fast as hell to 60, but their 1/4 mile times and acceleration in the higher speeds were never that great.

Just a guess.

Lightnings have a more conservative trans than the CLS and TLS. Once it shifts out of 1st, it won't go back. So chanced are, you got him in mid rpm with no downshift where as your car downshifted and took off.

Imagine if that monster downshifted to it's peak range everytime you jumped on it... 80% of those things would be in the junk yard from going sideways on the freeway.
