fog lights with parking lights.. again..
fog lights with parking lights.. again..
So, I've searched, and I know this topic has been covered plenty, but I couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for, and any thread where this post would best fit was already a few years old.
So yesterday I took out my road lamps and installed some H7 HIDs.. so they are now fog lights, no longer "road lamps". I am a big fan of the fog-without-headlights look on overcast days and such, so I figured I would wire the fog lights to come on with the parking lights. That would be no problem, but I wouldn't want them to flash with the unlock button, since that probably isn't good for the HIDs, right? I checked the parking light bulb under the turn signal, and it has two red wires and a ground. I assumed that one wire would be power from the unlock, and the other would be parking light power. However when I tested it with a volt reader, it seemed that both red wires had power on the unlock, which is what I didn't want.
So, is there a wire I could tap into anywhere in the front in that receives power with the parking lights, but NOT with the unlock?
(I am using a relay, so I just need a trigger source, power draw isn't an issue)
On a side note, is there any type of relay that will continue to give power for like 10-20 seconds after the trigger has stopped? If I could find something like that, it would be the perfect setup. The fogs would stay on for those 10-20 seconds after the unlock is hit, and when you shut the car off after having the headlights on, they would stay lit for a bit, similar to how our RL's lights do.
Thanks, guys! If anyone wants any help with the hid fogs or wiring, feel free to ask. AZ is a big help, and I'd like to give back as much as I can!

Yeah, I was sort of hoping there would be a spot up in the front of the car. But I guess taking from the dash isn't bad. Would there be a wire, then, at the dash dimmer switch? I could tap into it there (before the dimmer), and put a switch in the blank next to the dimmer.
>Did a little bit of research on the relay with a delay.. There is such a thing, a Time Delay Relay. One with an "Off Delay" is what I seem to be talking about. They're like $40 bucks or so, so I probably won't get into that now, although I'm sure it'd be a first on here to do that

My 12V switched wire is tapped into the drivers side parking light.
They come on with the parking lights, They do not flash with turn signals, but they do flash when I unlock or lock the car with the remote. Mine have a on/off switch though so I just turn the lights off when I park. But again I can only turn them on with the parking lights or full lights on.

Heck, if I can't find a wire that won't flash with the unlock, I'll just wire a switch in, and run my signal to my switch to come on with the ignition, so then the fogs can be used completely independently from the other lights, and will turn off when the car is off.
Whichever method I go, I'll post it here in case anyone needs it.
Did you use the TL fog light switch, or just a universal one? I was thinking about putting a switch in as well. Also, where did you take the 12v power to the relay from?

I know on my GTI, there was a fuze box under the dash, and one bolt on it was ON with ignition. I know it is a completely different car, but maybe our cars have something similar? It was nice because it didn't involve tapping any wires. If we find one, I'd use that for a switch anyways, then there would be no accidents leaving the fog lights on with the car off.
Anyone have any knowledge of such a thing on our cars?
Take your pick. +12v switched into anything that's on when the car is on. I have my radar detector tapped into the power mirror fuse.

Awesome ive been looking around to see how to wire everything up and what type of hid bulb size would fit in the housing. Could you share some knowledge ?
EWOK.. If you need any help, let me know! I have been helping out Los through PMs, So I can send them your way if you'd need.
I am going to order a 3000k kit and when I go to put it in, I'll install a switch. Los said he is planning on making another DIY.. if not, I may do it. The one that is already made has no pictures anymore.
If anyone is thinking about wiring these with the parking lights, the dash lights also flash with the unlock, just an FYI.
