fog/driving lights for 03 cl-s
I'm looking to purchase a set of lights. The dealer claims there are no factory fog light kits made. Will any of the other models (TL or RSX) work in place? Any suggestions for an aftermarket system?

So you have an 03 CL with just the black inserts where the fogs would be. The 01-02 CLs had fog lights and you can just buy those and put them in. They were on the stock CLs in those years, don't know what the dealer is talking about. Another user Badeh2 used a set of accord fogs modded a bit.

^^ yea, but the oem ones on my car ('01 CLS) SUCK! those so called roadlamps are a big effin' joke...but i did change my stock bulbs to a set of Polarg m6's that a friend (thanx Noah!) here on Azine recommended and now theyre about the same as my oem headlights as far as brightness is concerned...btw, welcome to Azine buck lee!

I like to think of road lamps as an illusion.
The Polarg bulbs help illuminate that piece of plastic but nothing to kick & scream about.
A lot of us here on Acurazine have been in search of an easy clean fix but it isn't so easy.
You will more than likely need to enlist the help of your creativity and DIY skills to make it happen.
If you come up with something good...please fill us in.

Oh well...do you want functional light output or not?
Because the CL road lamps offer no supplemental light.
At least the Accord fogs are fog lights and that is their intended use.
CL road lamps...we are still wondering what there exact use was...ambient lighting? practical joke? mistake?

I think the road lamps were just for looks at night. If you are going to put in the road lamps, please only get them with the polarg or Piaa bulbs. anything else and its going to look whimpy. I would just save your money and leave it as it is. People actually take out their lamps and replace them with your inserts.

I've got 5-LED wedge bulbs in mine, they light up the housing nicely. I pulled the roadlamps out yesterday and put in the inserts. Also bought a sheet of lexan. Gonna get rid of the old pitted plastic from the roadlamps and see if i can get the lexan to work. I'll post some pics in a day or two

Yeah...even with the lexan...do you think we could run HID's?
I was talking with a shop yesterday and they said they don't see any reason why they can run HID fogs on the TL and can't run on the CL.
We closely examined the two side by side.
Both housing on the TL & CL are plastic & similar depth.
They said they are starting to make shallower HID kits or bulbs and with that...HID fogs will become possible.
I still haven't given up on the possibility.

Look inside your roadlamp housing, under the bulb, you'll likely find a burnt area in the foil... Thats from a 5-watt bulb... Imagine what a 35 or 55-watt HID or Halogen bulb will do to the foil... Probably turn the insides of your housing into goo. The reason the TL can handle halogen and HID bulbs is because the housings are different and can handle the high heat.
I got the housings pulled apart and one thing of lexan cut, but so far its looking like it might end up being a failure...

my road lamps are starting to get burnt at the bottom too.
Might have to do the accord fogs here soon....
anyone have a pair of the accord fogs without a wiring harness since I already have an aftermarket harness for my roadlamps?

Comparitively speaking...they look to be pretty much the same and are manufactured of similar plastic housings...
The same burning can happen on TL's too...
I don't mean to argue with you but I am still not convinced that with the right product it isn't possible...
Based on a couple of shops input...they think it is possible.
Nonetheless...I'm still brainstorming and please continue to update us on your progress disgruntlednut

As far as I've read through the forum, anything past 20 watts will likely start to melt the housing. The TL fog light cover is glass while ours is plastic. Its also likely that the inside of the housing itself on the TL is much better made than the CL ($200 vs 40). I also had a shop tell me that they could run HIDs in the OEM roadlamp housing but I didn't want to take my chances.
I've got one roadlamp finished but the epoxy I used is taking forever to harden, gonna look for something different for the other one. Now the problem is, the bead of epoxy shows through the lexan... I'm probably gonna paint the outer 1/2 inch edge around the lexan covers either black or silver... They look really good so far though

So...shallower HID bulb and glass panel they figured would resolve the issue and I think this is the same logic the shop I went to expressed.
Would be have the same issue if we modded the 6th Gen Accord fogs in there...would those be able to run an HID setup or the same scenario?
