Florida Drivers---> DAMN FAST
Well, I packed the family up for a trip (from NJ) to south Florida (Fort Myers).
All I have to say is DAAAAYYYYYUUMMMMM!!! You Florida drivers drive SUPER FAST. Especially on I-75.
i.e.: I'm on I-75 doing about 85mph in my Quest (about as fast as it will comfortably go) and I'm seeing caravans of cars/vans/SUVs blowing past me often and consistently.
During my stay in Florida, I only saw a couple of state troopers at best. (Ironically on my return to NJ, I wasnt any further than interchange 2, when I already noticed 3 trooper cars on the NJ Turnpike, agressively enforcing traffic laws---as usual.)
I guess this explains why Floriday hwys act as US Autobahns. Unfortunately, I guess it kind of explains why I saw so many roadside memorials as well.
Go easy out there guys.
Peace.

I used to drive 100+ all the time on I-75 and the turnpike while driving in my CL-S. (Thank you V1 for keeping me out of jail during my idiot years) It seems that most folks drive about 80-85 until they get stuck behind the left-lane bandits that pace their buddies in the right lane. Now a'days I drive about 80 max in the SUV. I just don't feel safe going any faster in that rattlebox. The driver side door seals are shot too so it sounds like a wind tunnel. I can't wait until I get a new car, which should be soon.
I'm sure it is a global problem, but the big issue on Florida's highways is the fact that morons go 80+ and do it less then 2 car lengths behind the car in front of them. I yell at my fiance every time she drives close to the car ahead (which is why I drive most of the time), and she says she only does it so people don't cut in front of her. At least she's getting better about it now after many months of telling her "you aren't going any faster than you would with 50 more feet between us and the car ahead."
I did see a Chrysler 300C while driving back from the beach yesterday. Temp tag on it, brand spanking new, and it looked pretty mean. As for the cops... I saw plenty this weekend -- probably because it was a big holiday.

In my experience, FL drivers have been on par with typical speeders in the Chicagoland area and the corridor between Mass and RI. Those have been the fastest places that I've experienced.

IMHO there are alot of "New Americans" driving down here as they would in their "Old Country". Too fast, too close, poorly skilled (by US standards), and rude as f@ck! But as far as the cops go they're starting to drive unmarked Marauders. Easy to tell though, 'cause there are only 15 antennas on the trunk.

Since I moved down here I learned to "do unto others as they have done to you." Now what I do about slow drivers in the left lane is pass them on the right, then get in front of them and do about 45 as well. Then when they get tired of slowing down and they change lanes, I speed back up to normal speed. But if they jump right back in that lane I slow back down 'til it looks like they learned their lesson. I did that to a guy while driving next to a big rig for about 10 minutes one day. It was me, him, and the truck. He didn't even seem to even get frustrated. The guy was probably dumber than eggplant though.

Going down into MIA is way worse than the Orlando area. There always seems to be a lot of troopers staking out I-4. But down south, its fuckin balls to the wall speed down there.

I lived in Tampa, FL for 14 years and all I have to say is watch out! Not only do FL drivers drive fast, but they drive like idiots. When it rains it's like watching people driving in a ice storm. There aren't enough cops to patrol the highways and that is why everyone drives so fast.

When I drove down a year ago to see a buddy in tampa, and we went out driving. He was driving like 120 and I did the same just to keep up hitting like 130 to catch up. Car handled great. But was very nervous if something did go wrong. But straight Roads can see so far up and the Escort 8500 hopefully keepin me out of the way

It has always seemed that I4 has more troopers than on I75 and especially the turnpike. I rarely see any state patrol on the turnpike unless there is an accident. As such my speeds are normally above what they are on the interstates.
However, in an around Gainesville is where I do see some state patrol on I75.

i used to drive freakin fast. dont anymore, too many tickets.
well, one reason i think people drive fast in my area is because we're a buncha suburbs and no highway. also, old people and dumb people go the speed limit in the left and middle lane, so people will speed wherever people arent speeding are not.
i dunno, but ive def noticed florida drivers are less organized than drivers elsewhere.

And this topic is true as well! In Orlando, you have to keep at 70-75mph to stay up with traffic in a 55mph zone, or you'll get run over!

I drive to Ft. Laud from Miami everyday for work. I take the Turnpike to 595 to 95 to Cypress Creek and on the way back I take 95 to 595 to 75 to Turnpike (saves $2 on tolls ). The fastest I see people drive is 90-95. I do usually 85 except on 595 where you don't move. The biggest problems I see is the left lane thing especially on the Turnpike and your occasional 110 mph driver cutting across lately. I think more west like toward Ft. Myers and up to Tampa you might see the 120 drivers since you're in the middle of nowhere. When I drive (rush hour) 120+ is really unrealistic. Oh and there's a shortage on State Troopers because of expenses. But I do see the Marauders and I saw a Steeda GT up by Ft. Pierce.:o
