Flooring it

does it hurt your car? like the lifespan of your engine or anything?

For some reason, I have been led to believe that the car gets louder the rougher you drive it? Is this true?

any other performance/quality impacts?

ps - and i dont mean flooring it every single day you drive it! just once in a while

if you have a crap engine....all flooring(WOT) it does is open up the air inlet valve all the way...which means your engines going the fastest it can...with todays computers they wouldnt let it rev high enough to hurt it so dont worry. Now your tranny is a different story

I hope it doesn't harm the car much b/c I feel the need to really floor it at least once a day, especially after driving in traffic for about 30 minutes.

as long as you are flooring it only once in a while, its fine. i have never replaced an auto transmission or an engine.

I floor my car every day, just to hear the growl from the CAI!

Obviously the harder and faster you work the engine, the more wear and tear you'll have. If you are rough on the car very frequently, make sure you change your oil and tranny fluid more frequently than the recommended cycle.

thanks for the responses guys .. i guess that answers the question on the longevity and performance of the engine ..

however, no one has made any comment on the "sound"/"noise"? Does the engine get louder aka .. sound less luxurious?

Actually, my drive to work usually is about an hour, but not even halfway there I already feel like flooring it through the emergency lane. Haven't done it yet though.

Let's just say this...I beat the shit out of my Corolla's tranny for 4 years....manual shifting...neutral banging....like a rent-a-car....it didn't break for 105K miles....so a little revving of the motor isn't going to hurt.
