Fixing scratches
Fixing scratches
I have a scratch on my driver side door...i dunno when it was made but it is deep but is only 1 cm long. My acura dealer gave me some touch-up paint but how else can i fill in the scratch other than re-painting the door?
I use Langka and it works OK at best, you may want to try doing an application. Letting it dry overnight. DOing another. Letting it dry. For a few days. Eventually it will get pretty close to normal. www.langka.com
I detailed cars for a few years and know that you cant make paint appear where there is no paint. As long as it is a light scratch and type if fine cut polish should do the trick. I am a fan of 3M products and Meguires to. But there are many good brands of fine and medium cut polishes. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for". If it is deep and there is no paoint to bring to a shine, then touch up is the next best bet. DONT USE THE BRUSH. It puts it on to thick and wide. Find a fint tipped item. I like to use needles actually or plastic tooth picks. Dip it in the paint only a little. Then put it directly into the scrant and move back and fourth. If it is to light and thin go for a second application. It its to think quickly wipe it off and try again. Once it dries use a good polish or fine cut swirl remover to finish it off and keep it waxed!!
Oh and you also need a steady hand.

Depending on the quality of the touch-up paint, you may want to try a bit of automotive grade paint thinner or mineral spirits. Try and keep the area as small as possible as they both will rob the paint of all its luster and shine. So you will need to replenish the paint with some wax after you have finished the touch-up. If it wont come off, you can get clay bars in different degrees of grit and work the area down until it is smooth. You wil need to start at a medium grit and work towards a fine grit then a swirl remover. Might be costly since you need so little of the product but need to buy the whole bar. Even a good liquid medium grit, then fine then swirl remover might work. Total cost might be around 20 to 30 bucks for the liquid. Just a guess. Hope this helps..
