First Time At The Track Last Night...
I went to the track last night. I didn't mean to, but I was in the area & decided what the hell. My very first time. After about 10 minutes of getting lost I found the regestration booth. No signs anywhere in the place. So I line up at the staging area. Sit there for like 35 minutes. I finally get up to the line...
Let me say I SUCK!
First run I did a wopping 16.529! Cause I had no traction. My reaction time was 1.101, 60' was 3.057.
2nd run was a little better at 15.786.
Last run was alot better at 15.053.
I have to give thaks for the last run to another CL driver. After talking to him, he said to lower the PSI in my front tires. I was running my normal 40PSI all around! I got the front to around 28PSI. Wish I knew that before
I'm sure my car is way faster then that, It dynos high. I just can't drive it well at the track. It was about 80 out too. The other guys CLS was nice, he had a white 01, or 02 running NOS, & was doing mid 13's.
Overall I didn't like the track experience. Maybe it was just this night. Paid $15 only got 3 runs in, & spend most of the time waiting. We were all waiting for the pro cars to do there runs first. After they stopped then us street cars were allowed to run, but only 1 run about every 35 minutes. In between the pro cars runs. I didn't like that. Are most tracks like that? There were some hot cars there, & some very crappy beaters, that ran like a bat out of hell. I didn't see any rice. I did see a very nice pimp daddy gold Accord. It was very nice. I guess he broke it though, cause it was on a tow truck as I was leaving

It's certainly NOT easy to drive and get the most of out these cars, so don't beat yourself up. I must say, I don't think I've ever seen someone actually post a 3+ second 60-foot time here. I think you've set a board record.
It's hard not to MASH the gas right at the start. The adrenaline is flowing and you just wanna go. If you can get the launch right, you'll see the results.

fuzzy,
dragging with manual car isn't easy It takes practice. You should find a day where you can run multiple times. They usually call it "TEST and TUNE".

Hey fuzzy,
I give props for putting yourself out there and admitting that 16.5! Like others have said, it takes practice...especially with a manual (I don't even know how to drive a manual!). Worst part is that is doesn't sound like you had too much fun.
You always have to wait to run. Part of the fun for me was watching other cars and what they were doing. I've only been to the track once and only ran three times but I got to watch a 12-second S4 vs a Viper spraying! I also got to see a few other cool cars running some good times. When you go you almost have to expect to only get a few runs in. I think thats part of the reason why peeps go as a group. Hope you can make it back again and have more fun!

I really think if I had more time for runs I would have gotten it down. Lowering the PSI helped alot, I also had a half tank of gas cause I wasn't expecting to go.

the cl-s loves back to back runs, i go right when the track opens and get like 15 runs in the first hour
my first run was a 14.6 then i end up goin 14.2 a few runs later, so the car def gets faster w/ multiple runs

ga2000, the 6-speed is tricky to launch with the right rpms before you release the clutch.
For your slushbox, are you holding the gas and the brake, then letting go of the brake? Or just letting go of the brake and then mashing the gas? I'm guessing that if you have traction control, you've got the slushbox.

Everyone is right it is so hard to launch the 6-spd I have found that about 1200-1500 and let the clutch out quick but not all the way till like 3000. This works the best for me, but have not been to the track!! If I let out closer to 2000 RPMS all I get is spinning the hell out of these shiity tires or wheel hop
Good luck at the track

i noticed also ...
the advantage to back to back runs is less anxiety each time you're up to bat... the first three or four runs are pretty nerve-racking .. at least for me... as mentioned: adrenaline is pumping .. you're thinking about all the techniques you read about on the forum... and then GREEN! .. all goes out the window and you just mash the gas... techniques you say?
I'd imagine after the 7th or 8th run, you're calm enough to actually incorporate skill .. etc.

Wow! you're lucky!
I got flamed the first time I ran my car with a 15.1. I haven't gone in a while, but the last time I ran a 14.6, it takes a lot of practice. 25psi in front, no spare, and less than a quater tank of gas. I'm sure I can run faster now, I just don't have time to go down. Have fun, and don't worry about reaction time. It doesn't matter.

it's more fun if you go w/ friends. looks like SFLA goes to the same track.
people on these forums can give you the right tips to run some mid 14 second times.
