Question First Car...

*I'm not too good at writing these and I skip around alot so bear with me....Alright guys, I'm 16 and I've been working and saving my pennys for a while, so I've got some pretty good money for a first car and my parents are willing to help me pay for one and what-not, so basically i'm just looking for your opinions on my situation, SO 6mon. ago when i started looking for a used car for myself I wanted a volvo ,the turbo was a turnon for somereason, but i read reviews and repairs and stuff, not looking too good, so after going through about 10 other types of cars from hondas to sabbs, i found the acura cl...my parents have both had different hondas at different times and have loved them all so when i told them that i liked acuras they were very interested. alright well to make a long story short, i came across a '99 red 3.0 CL with 60k for....$11.5 and i really wanted it, UNTIL 2 days later while looking at another dealer (which was weird because at that point i had my heart set on the '99) i found my dream car, an '01 White CL Type S with 70k.......$11.8, great price right? they have all the records and everything, this thing is mint, new tires, brakes, i mean it's perfect so i test drove it, brought it home for a day, love it, so i'm looking at all the info i can get on CL's and stumbled across acurazine , VERY IMPRESSED, of cource i'm really just wondering.....should i buy it,no thats a dumb way to put it because im going to buy it, it's just talking my parents into it because they think its alot of car for a 16 year old, but i can afford it.... Im just confused ??? I dont even know what im asking anymore so....

2001 CL type s 70k
1. is 11,800 a good price?
2. i'll be in debt for a little while after i buy it...but i do wanna make mods, ideas to start with?
3. can you hook up subs and an amp to a stock stereo?
.....any other info i should know before buying?

thats a reasonable price, check to see what has been done to it, at 70,000 mile needs the schedule maintenance, the acura cl cost less for repair compare to volvo or sabb, a fun car to drive, mods would be to add the cold air intake and catback exuast and spring, with spring you will lose a slight factory ride but good cornering and handling but normal for all upgrades. stick with 2001 and up hold value and looks good

Seems like a good deal... you have another 30K miles of transmission warranty, so you'll be just fine.

If you need to convince your parents that it's not "too much car," remind them that it's a FWD vehicle with traction control and an electronic stability system (VSA). If anything, it's safer than a Civic.

But you have to be smart with that kinda power at your age. Good luck!

I'm with 03 on this one, i definitely wouldn't let that deal slip away (kinda like i didn't let mine slip away at $18,700). If your parents need a little convincing, definitely go over how reliable they are, and make sure you let them know about the safety features. The only draw back to getting a car like this at your age is gonna be wanting to push it to its limits and your INSURANCE. You're definitely gonna want to call your insurance company and check to see how bad they're gonnna rape you. Either way, Good Luck!

I am with Both '03s on this. I just got mine and I have to hold back from pushing it hard. And i'm 23 so you'd think I'm past that stage. Seems like you may be responsible enough to control yourself (Or just smart with money) but at 16 sometimes although I never thought I'd say this you can get careless, especially in front of other people your age, so take advice where it will safe a life. Now that my old ass is passed giving advice, get the car, you'll love it, and this is a good deal. Oh, and definitely check your insurance rates, ohio isn't that bad (I used to be in columbus) but they'll still rape you.

Sounds like a reasonable deal. Go for it, or see if you can save another 4K and get a 6 speed.

Ya i want a 6spd, but i know its not availible on a 01 and i cant find another one for a reasonable price, my dad wants me to get the manual, but my mom definatly wants auto so i figure the automanual is a good median, ive read good things about the CL's automanual (better than most) Like any 16 year old like you guys said, i gotta watch my ass

I got my 01 CLS as my first car, yes i drive like an idoit cause im 18 but i dont push the limits because i know if i get a speeding ticket or in a wreck i lose my car.

Also, insurance isnt that bad on our cars because the company doesnt really know how powerful they really are. A V6 mustang would have cost more than my CL on insurance

For the most part, it is a very reliable car. That sounds like a good deal.

Just watch out for the auto tranny though.

(hate to be a parade storm cloud) but know what you're getting into with these shitty trannies first.
