Fender rolling

whats up guys as you can see from my pic I have a 03 CL-s. I have 18' on the car now and they are staggered. I also have eibach springs and stock struts. Anyone with this set up knows the back sets lower than the front. Anyway when I hit big bumbs or just dips in the road my tires scrap the fender. Ive been planning on getting them rolled because a buddy of mine has the tool, so I wouldn't have to use a wooden bat... I do have some honda cancer on the drive side fender and Im worried about the paint chipping more or the rust just falling off. Its not too bad at all but the paint is kinda bubbly. Anything suggestions from anybody that has rolled their fenders?

First of all, wheel/tire specs will be needed to assist you and the problem.

Secondly, you cannot roll fenders that are eaten with rust. It will not "roll" anything. It will just break. If you see bubbles coming through on the painted side, that's heavy rust penetration which means the rear (or front) quarters will need to be replaced before you can go any further here.

Lastly, running a staggered setup DOES look great even on these cars I wont lie. But its a "wannabe" mod that I couldn't ever think about condemning my car to such cruel punishment. Especially to such a great car like the CL-S.

I forgot what the wheel/tire specs are, ill have to check when I get home. But thanks for the heads up before I fucked anything up... Could I just cut the lip on the inside of the fender? It not extremely bad rust maybe 2 quarter size spots. And its the rear BTW.
How are staggered rims a :wannabe: mod? Just asking I love the wide body look from behind. And what kind of punishment? U just mean it looks bad in your opinion?
*Edit I know the tires are 215/35 all around and I think the wheels are:
front:18x8.5 or 9
Rear:18x10 Im pretty sure the offset is +40

It's easy to roll them yourself yes but you will crack the paint unless you make the bend a little at a time and don't use a hard faced hammer to make the blow. I used a poly-hammer with a 12oz brass and worked the lip from one side to the next about 4 times total and only made one tiny crack in the paint that I just went over with JB and then painted it black again.

The reason I said "wannabe" was because a staggered setup is for a RWD vehicle and the CL obviously isn't that. BUT, it still looks great on them. Just an opinion. Punishment was meant in regards to embarrassing the vehicle from its poser stance. Lmao

Like I said, the CL-S is one beautiful freakin' car. Mod her right and don't rice it like so many people around seem to be doing. Wide body is sick and appreciable on a car like this and to my knowledge, it's only been done once and the car was unfathomably hard not to trance on. I'm sure someone will throw up some pics of her if you ask but that's the way I would go.

Then, boost that beeyotch to the sky! If you don't know me, that's my suggestion for everyone.

Heat the lip/fender as well. It makes the paint more pliable. Believe it or not, heating the lip then smacking the lip with a big dead blow hammer will do the initial bending then do the small finish work with the roller works the best and doesnt damage the paint.

i had some rust in my passenger side wheel well, we heated it then rolled it really slow and carefully, and almost all the paint came off where the rust was so i just sanded it down and primed and painted where needed

yungone501-- I see what your saying about staggered rims, obviously our cars are not RWD. Id like to get some normal wheels but the drags I have now were the best ones I could find at the time for the price.
mahoney664--Thanks, how much rust did you have when you did yours? Ive never primed anything or even painted anything so im sketchy about doing it my self and im sure a paint shop would charge me a arm and a leg.

I believe fsttyms1 said it best, use a heat gun and start slow with the roller. Also at the end of the day its your car put any wheels/stuff you want on it. Check out pdiddy (he's a member on here) his cls looked awesome with a staggered set up of work vs-xx's.

Thanks I know how to do it with out damaging the paint but, I have some rust and the paint is already starting to chip a little. That's why im so nervous about rolling them because it might cost a lot do it get re painted if it chips off to much. And I wouldn't try to paint it my self, being that I have never done any painting id probably fuck shit up lol

Just wondering,I know basically everyone that has a CL has theirs lowered. When I lowered mine on Eibach springs and stock struts my tires scrap when I hit a dip or big bump in the road. Because of the springs it did lower more in the back then the front but is this just because I have staggered wheels and they are wider in the back or what. This is the main reason i was wanting to roll my fenders. I don't see many people with staggered wheels so Im thinking this might be the problem.

I had my fender lip cut with a grinder then it was sealed with undercoating. No problems since and it's been years.

As for your questions about it being lower in the back then the front, it could the the wheel is closer to the fender since it's wider. If you have an audio system in the back, that would be another reason.

Thanks, that was the conclusion I am coming to. Just grind the lip off. But Im thinking this could just make my fender sharp on the edges and when it scraps it could do more damage to the tires. And no I don't have a system in the back, its because the front end is lighter in the 6 speeds then the autos. Idk im really considering just rolling them and if the paint chips I can touch it up like maHoney664 said above.

If you cut the lip, it shouldn't scrape anymore.

I think it probably will because my rear wheels are so wide but ill give it a shot, that's the easiest fix right now. Thanks for the advise!

If it's still rubbing then a cut/rolled fender won't fix anything. You're looking for a fender pull at that point.
I mean, I still rub but it's few and far in between. Just keep it slow over bumps and dips and it should be fine most of the time.

Relocated rear bumper mountin tab right? I ran 18x 9.5 in the rear w megan coilovers and probably had one of the most lowered Cl's and moving that took away alot of the rub but yes a heat gun at 3pm in the florida sun helped me roll with no paint chipping and go sloooooo easy to get overzealous and try and rush and use some spray on rhinoliner or something when ure done after u sand the rust spots...

Oh and to get the front lower with those springs I say do it the old fasioned way and just cut some coils off BUT i would but do that the same way as the fender roll and go slo and only like a quarter coil at a time then lower the car off the jack to achieve the desired look. Probably get bashed for that but been doing it for years on all my dubs and never had a problem and always ran aftermarket springs koni eibach ect... Now i just buy coilovers and solve that problem

thanks for the help guys! I have not yet removed the bumper mount tab. I will post some pics asap. I have thought about cutting the springs like you said but idk anyone that has done that but, i will check around. when i got the springs i was trying to save money, now that i saw how much adjustable struts are i really wish i would have just went with coils.
I went ahead and put on my stock wheels and that solved the rubbing problem. Im probably just going to trade my wheels for some 8"-8.5"

Kinda late but basically my car was hit before i bought it and they got it fixed under the table and who ever "Fixed" it didnt shoot the inside of the fender so the ENTIRE lip on the fender is rusted out

I think the bumper tab is what usually rubs first. Civicdrivr used to say put painters tape all over your fender and spray tire shine on and bounce the rear. The tape will be black where you're rubbing. Booya

That's a great idea! i would try that but, I already put my stock wheels back on they don't rub. I actually think the stock wheels look just as good. Ive been thinking about getting some spacers but I don't want to worry about this rubbing issue again. If I do ill have the try civicdrivr idea for sure.
Id rather have A specs though
