Feeling on 17x7.5" wheel with 235/45/17's

Well the three combo's I'm looking at are;

1. STOCK - 17x7" SSR GT1's with Toyo 215/50/17
Pros: stock size so fit will not be a problem. New springs will not cause rubbing.
Cons: stock size so I will not benefit from a larger contact patch(improving handling & traction).

2. Wide - 17x8 SSR GT1's with toyo 235-245/45/17
Pros: Bigger contact patch will increase handling and traction. Look cool
Cons: Will rub under certain driving conditions

3. Compromise - 17x7.5 SSR GT1's with Toyo 235/45/17
Pros: Bigger contact patch, increased handling and traction. No rubbing(need to look at offsets)?
Cons: Don't know any do you???

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on the 17x7.5 wheels with 235 rubber?

I know Nashau has the 18x7.5" with Nitto 235/40 rubber (at least I'm pretty sure), but he isn't lowered.

I have the 17x8 SSRs, but I'm not lowered (so I don't have a problem). If you lower the car with the Comptech springs or lower, you will rub.

Also, different tires have different section widths and contact patches.

Each time you put a given size tire on a narrower wheel, you reduce the "section width" given on the tire manufacturer's spec sheet. That section with is calculated using the "measuring wheel." This is shown on most pages as the the "center" wheel width value (max, Measuring width, min) *or* there will be a color to denote it.

As you shrink the rim, you reduce this section width, here is a page on the TireRack site that tells you approximately how much.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...l#sectionwidth

So, there is a point where a 225 on a wide wheel will rub as much as a 235 on a narrow wheel.

I wonder who is going to come forth and describe exactly where they are rubbing with their tires?
